He must interview well because no one is hiring based on results...

He must interview like Jesus . He's one of those coaches that seems to get employed no matter what happens where they were last and he slots in nicely with a list that includes John Mitchell , Jake White and Scott Johnson .

I never thought I'd see anyone being so Wingeresque about the Hammetuer.

The blues could finally get a decent halves combo after one season of this clowns management .

You clearly don't remember Paj and Chris B on the old thread.

Maybe he's learnt his lessons and will actually be a decent coach this time round. Maybe.

@jegga would be good company for Matt Elliot too!! silver tongued coaches aren't limited to rugby - you'd really have to question wtf the Landers are thinking though... Hmm Hammer was in Japan... Brown is going to Japan...ummm so Hammer must be a good swap for Brown!

I've tried to repress most memories of that era.
I remember reading one time he was apparently the one who came with the plan of how to beat the Brumbies in the 2000 s12 final, maybe he's a better tactician or assistant coach like other have suggested?

Who else is available at the moment should some highlanders fan go all Tonya Harding on the Hammetuer?

Hasn't Aaron Mauger teamed up with him as well?

Another with a less than exemplary track record.

I remember Paj saw him speak and after that he appeared hypnotised by his coaching prowess.

I'm pretty sure @Chris-B is his mother.

Hammetteur is to Super rugby what Lane Kiffin is to the NFL. How the fark does he keep getting these gigs?

Hammett might be head coach , but I suspect it's just as likely to be McLeod or even Preston. Highlanders management seem to be fairly switched on. Hammett had a good go as a head coach and just wasn't up to it - though I am prepared to believe he's a good tactical coach.

    He trains at 98%.

It's almost as if you guys have never read this article... 🙂

Conrad was pretty prescient about the way the Canes have kicked on.

Quite a number of AB squad hopefuls returning to play in the next few rounds after a nice rest. Cue Stephen Jones writing a conspiracy theory about NZRU pulling strings to make sure our players are extra fresh for the international season.

    NMS
    Coles
    Ngatai
    Harris
    Sopoaga

S Whitelock and BFA get a refresher

Dagg has had a decent rest already (when is he back?)

Kaino is off recharging as is Read.

TKB took a little knock to get a break.

    Anyone else?

@Crucial Dagg was aiming for the Hurricanes game next week, or maybe the following game.

Hi mrs Hammet, I hope for your sake Marks dad isnt prone to wilting under pressure like Mark did when he came off the bench in the second bledisloe test in 2000.

The best part of that article @Chris-B posted is the reminder of Conrad's broken thumb injury. He too had a 6 week prognosis but was looking to play after 4.

Changing a culture and being a good rugby coach are two different things.

There is no doubt Hammett did a lot of work in turning around a culture but how much he managed to achieve in getting the team humming on game day is what is in question now.

I have never seen any of his teams play a good style. He seems good at aspects of the game but the overall picture doesn't gel. Things like continuing to play Bateman at 12 when it was obvious that some front foot ball was needed to set the backs alight. The robotic phase plays where everyone seemed more interested in playing the training patterns than playing the game.
