What are you listening to, right now................
-
I guess it's been months since anybody listened to anything...?

During the RWC I started listening heavily to a 10-cd boxset from a few years ago "Autumn Thunder," a 40-year retrospective of original music composed for NFL Films... Now deep into the playoff season, I'm back listening to it again. You have to hand it to them, that league knows how to commercialize and mythologize itself. Some of the tunes are derivative from film soundtrack composers of the era, especially the Sam Spence material from the 60s & 70s, but I've heard a lot of metal musicians citing these NFL composers over the years. It's guy-music, for guys who like sports and action movies and collisions and blood.
"Heroes of War" by David Robidoux:

...And here's how that same song "looks" when the NFL slaps it on footage of their Player of the Decade (1970s):
Listening to the 'SuperHeavy" collaboration between Mick Jagger, Joss Stone, Dave Stewart, A. R. Rahman, and Damian Marley. Quite a diverse album as you would expect with such a lineup, but it is the songs that use a bit of everyone that really shine. I wouldn't normally listen to any of these artists individually but I read an article about this that got me interested to see what it was like.

This is the single they have released
[quote name='Duluth']Yeah.. surely thats an intentional homage from SY?
that show in 80-whatever-it-was (88?) when it passed through philly. i think it was steve albini who used to say sonic youth shows were either shit-hot or really dire/...luckily i saw one of the shit-hot ones. big fun.
One of the best concerts I've been to was SY playing Daydream Nation in its entirety at the Roundhouse to mark the 20th anniversary of its release. Such a great album that one..
Instead of posting a video clip. Here in memorial to Don Cornelius is a link to a great mix of Soul Train classics.
Don C (the creator of Soul Train) died the other day aged 75.

This is the guy that brought black music to the masses via TV and helped create the coolest dance clips on youtube with the famous Soul Train 'line'. -

Rizzle Kicks: a couple of new kids who's album came out last year to no fuss at all, which I find sad because they're a good time.
You might enjoy if you like stuff in the vein of Jurassic 5, Chiddy Bang, Ugly Duckling or Marc Ronson.

This video I particularly like because they made it themselves with a guy directing who is a wedding photographer they met at a party. He's shot a nice vid here with a budget of about $2000 -

Pre-release from the new record, just posted online. Original lineup. It's amusing to imagine an angry pissedoff Jaz reclining in his hammock on Great Barrier Island furiously scribbling down lyrics about the Rapture. -
