@Tim Liam Steel has a bit of pace, decision making wasn't his strongest suit though. James Lay isn't much chop. Didn't look up to standard at all in his apparances last season.

Here's a list of (nine) players from last years squad who aren't available this year:

    Charlie Faumuina
    James Lay
    Liaki Moli
    Joe Edwards
    Steven Luatua
    Simon Hickey
    Stacey Ili
    Liam Steel
    Lolagi Visinia

We might be missing Fatialofa, Seu, and Ravouvou through injury.

BTW, 2016 Wellington player Salesi Rayasi is playing club rugby in Auckland for Marist, and was in the 2017 Blues U20 squad. He's the leading try scorer in Auckland club rugby so far this year.

@Duluth said in Mitre 10 Cup - news, injuries etc:

I see Dan Bowden is playing 10 for Ponsonby. If he's over his injuries, he would be a decent stop gap until one of the younger flyhalfs is ready

Sounds like he injured himself again last weekend, and was not named in the team this weekend:

Ponies fullback Pryor Collier showed a good step to score for the lead, which Ponies held via some tenacious defence. The downside was that first five Daniel Bowden limped off with what looked to be a leg injury.

@Tim spent a lot of his last stint in NZ on the sidelines injured too.

Shame, because he has the skills to be a very good 10 at Super level, but father time catching up (in his 30's now right?)

Jebus I remember him as a small shy kid coming along to 7's training with dad. I'm old.

I'm a big fan of experienced NZ pros returning to their home province - so long as they assist don't and hinder the progress of young guys in the squad. Is Dan Hollinshead back after his short-term contract in France?

Auckland Club Rugby top point scorer, William Talataina-Mu, is playing for Southland this season. He plays 10 and 12.

Ponies missed first five William Talataina-Mu, who has signed with the Southland Stags for the Mitre 10 Cup.

@Tim crazy to think Auckland will let Talataina Mu go,but sign a 31 year Daniel Bowden, with the greatest of respect, you wonder why they lose so many young guys, one kid that I have seen running around for College Rifles is first five Otu Mausia, has played Auckland U19s,looks very tidy and kicks goals,be interesting to see where he is in the pecking order.
