@taniwharugby has Hyland really been exposed that often? I only recall the Otago game where he got found out a few times (and one of those was only because the officials missed Koroi in front of the kicker). I reckon he has been a bit of a revelation this season. I wasn't expecting much but he has been surprisingly good for me. Has been strong in the tackle and a dangerous ball carrier. Tua is definitely a talent and will be very important in the midfield next year but not sure he has done enough to squeeze Hyland out.
We should have kept our composure and scored just after halftime and it may have been a different game. As TR mentioned we weren't patient enough and made mistakes under pressure. We got away with that against teams like HB but not going to against Wellington.
I've been a big fan of Sam Nock this season but thought his passing was very wayward during this game and that's normally his strength.
If we make the semis I would like to see Breen come back in, Hawkins was way too deep this morning and looked a bit gun shy in contact after injury. Hopefully Tim Bond is ok because I think he's quite important in the pack - playing a bit like Marty Veale did for us a few years ago. Both him and Douglas out would be a big blow.

@taniwharugby said in v Wellington:
2/3 are possible, albeit slim but no way can I see the Banjos rolling Otago...
If Southland win it'll be a miracle, they'd struggle in most club competitions at the moment..
The other two are good possibilities, more so Waikato over BoP.
-
@chiefy07 reckon he struggled since the Otago game going back.
As I said, I think he has been excellent going forward and in d except when he has had to turn and chase, but for my mind the best way for us would have been to move Tua to 13 and push Ranger to the wing.

Hoping for a get out of jail card to appear over the weekend,God its like a slow death..!
In all honesty,I am very pissed off,on the big stage, when we needed to be at our best when you consider what was at stake,we came up short, unfortunately I am not expecting a miracle..!,we have been the masters of our own demise,in what was always going to be a tight race to get to the finals especially with many of the championship teams knocking over premiership teams, bonus points were just as important as wins..we should have never been in this situation going into the wellington game requiring a point.
The game against Otago comes to mind,a try conceded after the hooter still grates with me,and there was the opportunity to kick for goal against Counties Manukau when a bonus point was on offer..and to make it even worse,Breen had been kicking at 100%,really daft decisions made without thinking about the big picture..
This was a real opportunity to make a statement, given we won't have Ranger next year, and I suspect Jack Goodhue will be around the All Blacks in 2018... -
@steven-harris yep giving up that last try to Otago is looking even worse now 😓
Ah well, 5 wins this year vs 1 from 15/16...silver lining and all
-
Any news about on Bond? Hopefully that was all precautionary and nothing serious, never want to see a player stretchered off
-
Our chances sit with HB now...Otago will smash Southland, meaning if we do get through we will be back in Wellington.
-
The news on Tim Bond is good, hopefully will be up and around in 2-3 weeks.
Some news which I came across today, apparently the canes are having a good look at Ross Wright, they like his work rate and have been impressed with his scrummaging, would be a great reward for Ross, with Kane Hames away with the All Blacks, and Ben May having had surgery,he must be an outside chance for the NZ Maori end of season tour..fingers crossed,he's been one of our better ones in 2017.I'm down in the Bay,hoping they can do the job on the Turbos,i am even more pissed about that the bonus point we gave up against Otago after seeing them defeat a piss poor Southland Team..!
-
So, back to Wellington!
Assuming just Bond is only one out, Douglas to move in, Ram to,start and FV2 to the bench?
Hell yeah, Ross Wright would be hugely deserving of a contract, massively loyal, has had his battles but came into this season in good shape!
-
Who would have believed it,I am still in a state of shock, avoided the executioners noose by a fingernail,we looked a bit like the Queensland cowboys in the NRL,mad Monday was staring us in the face..,and then a result goes our way..next chapter please...?
