Parkes has been playing some good footy for Scarlets in the Pro14. Playing mainly at 2nd 5 with the odd game at centre. Plays alongside Davies, so that probably helped his chances significantly.

    Good luck to him.

Hey Oz fans, so what is the point of the Classic Wallabies v Barbarians match?

It doesn't seem to serve a purpose other than just being a festival game - or are the Baabaas (TNW & Pek Cowan aside) seen as future Wallabies players?

More a warmup game for the Baabaas given their upcoming match against the Wallabies.

Baabaas won by 3 points for anyone interested.

Does no Jamie Roberts or Scott Williams mean that Warrenball really has been retired?

Meanwhile reports are that Gatland wanted ex Wales U20 player Luke Hamilton but Hamilton has been named by Scotland instead. Some slight loophole that is now closed applies to Hamilton and he is free to move.
    Anscombe presumably still injured?

Meanwhile Scotland have selected Phil Burleigh...and Ireland will likely choose Bundee Aki...

This must be most of, or the complete, World XV squad for the match against Japan on Saturday. Interestingly, Robbie Deans is coaching this squad as well as the Barbarians. And look who's in the squad! Flynn, Pleasants-Tate, Ellis, Aso & Buckman!

Must break some sort of advertising code by naming Greg Pleasants-Tate in a World XV.

Magpies flanker Tony Lamborn has been named in the USA Eagles squad.

The team's head coach is Dave Hewett, former Crusaders forwards coach.

Did he get any stand down for his part in that discussion against the 'Poo?

@higgins I have been keeping an eye on it, and I haven't seen any publication relating to a suspension of Lamborn or Tudreu. I found a media release relating to a red card handed out during the same weekend (Albert Nikoro), so I can only assume that both Lamborn and Tudreu's cases were either dismissed or their sent-off was deemed a sufficient punishment. Probably, there has been a media release about it, but no news site could be bothered to publish it.

And it is probably only going to get worse as I read someone's column yesterday where he said the Fairfax Media had made the position of sports reporters redundant at a number of regional newspaper and the Hawkes Bay Today was one of those mentioned. Will see if I can hunt it out and post the link to it.

EDIT: Found something referring to the axing of sports reporters positions but not the column I was referring to above http://www.etu.nz/fairfax-axe-sports-reporters-another-blow-regional-journalism/

@higgins It talks about Fairfax and regional sports coverage on the Stuff website and in regional newspapers. HBT is Herald, isn't it? So NZME, not Fairfax? Maybe not affected?
