hi lifting bros. Quick update on the training.

Training after the initial post went alright. Joined a swim squad which was hugely beneficial, and saw instant and tangible improvements.

Cycling was always going to be okay, and i have embraced the MAMIL thing all-out. Lycra (you can get Star Wars shit, it's awesome), shoes, colour co-ordination, the lot. Fuck you can spend some coin though.

Even did a couple of 10km organised runs for something different, despite doing zero run training.

And still in the gym 2-3 times a week.

And then October and November happened, with visitors from NZ, my 40th, and moving house. And it all took a bit of a hit, especially the swimming. But i still fitted in at least 3 sessions a week.

Upshot is, i am now ramping up a bit. Did a 50km ride on the weekend, hungover, which proved i could. Did 1,500m in the pool last night.

Physically i am in good shape. I am the lightest i have been since 2002 when i was living in Wellington on a graduate salary, and choosing lifestyle over, you know, eating. However, despite my weight, i am lifting as much in the gym as i think i ever have. Still a little worried about the swim, as i need to get my lungs better (it's been too sporadic to get any real progress), but i have 21 weeks until my race.

Heckle away, even you fat guts

    I'm 98kg. That's not fat.

I'm also quite good at running considering I despise it.

Pedant alert - that is a mass - not even a weight. It may or may not be fat...if you are 5 ft then, well, you would be quite round I think.

Just thought that I put an oar in where it wasn't wanted.

    You, Mr DildoinMouth.

In all seriousness, you're clearly doing an awesome job with the training. Great stuff!

@rancid-schnitzel haha in all honesty i haven't been in a ripper club since 2011, and before then i couldn't even tell you actually.

Training has been okay, but a little too sporadic. I don't enjoy the swimming much, so i have avoided it, bit more on the bike though.

All this cardio fucking strips the weight though!

How's the diet? I've always found that more of a help than just cardio alone.

@mn5 too much beer. But i don't eat much junk, and cut most of my sugar out (okay down). Also a bit better on my portions. Combine the two, and i needed to buy new pants because they were all a size (or 2) too big, while all my shirts got tight at the top! Not a bad problem to have really.

Still careful to put enough fuel in though, i notice the difference when i don't.

The piss can be a tough one especially in the heat. I've really cut down on the wank craft beers and instead I'll have a corona or 2 ( not great i admit but better than a bloating IPA or APA ) or red wine. With the inevitable Summer barbies I make sure to have meat and salad and minimal carbs, I find this works pretty good for me personally. I'm down to 34 jeans AND I need a belt. Pretty happy with that.

Did I mention I hate running?

    running can get fucked.

All my new neighbours are piss heads who love a beer, and i have the worst rubber arms. And the missus also has those same rubber arms, so i don't even have a handbrake! And it's hot, so having a beer is an absolute joy. Trying very hard not to have any monday-thursday, but i really feel like one when i get home...

Still, I'm skinny as fuck, so don't need to be fanatical about these things

There's definitely a reason Craft beer connoisseurs have guts.....

Having a beer is one of God's great gifts to us. So good. Old mate @NTA and myself had loads of good drops when he came here.

somehow, despite eating and drinking shitloads more than normal, and doing no exercise (combination of heat and having visitors take over my gym area) I have managed to lose a kg and a bit since just before Xmas, so pretty stoked...

Dont expect my home brews are great for the waistline but they sure taste good while I watch TR Jnr mow the lawns!
