The Struggle Continues......

I have had similar "issues" in the past mate especially playing tighthead when you're under the cosh at scrum time it can be really difficult to walk quickly let alone run around the track.

I've also had difficulty increasing my running speed when the mind is willing but legs feel like lead.

I don't have that problem on the treadmill. I just crank up the speed and run faster or fall off.
Fuck yea, when i first got shotgun marched into the 2nd row, after every scrum my legs were fucked, and it's worse from lock because you are expected to haul ass out wide. I reckon it took me a full year to get the right kind of fitness into my legs. -

A midget like you was a lock ????????? -
midget??!! yea, it's a short and boring story, and i don't want to hijack RBs really quite inspirational thread (or interupt you perving on yourself)
-
Believe it or not I once locked a senior A scrum for about ten minutes in 2002 at 5'7!

I also caught two handed every single ball thrown to me at the front of the lineout between 1991 and 2005! Statistically I must be one of the greatest lineout forwards ever to have played the game. -
Don't worry about MN5, he's a back, and therefore not really a rugby player.

What? You're a back? You never told me! Do your parents know????
And now to fire up the BBQ!!!! -
I locked a senior scrum one time, granted it was golden oldies and I was always a lifter in the lineout anyway..it was there or hooker, decided to keep my front row virginity in tact, given my coach often asked if I wanted to play hooker...
-
The front row is glorious fun though! no idea why so many try and avoid it. A mean hit and a big shove in the scrum feels just like a slick double skip, wrap around - waaaay better than your garden variety 1/2 cut!!
-
vanity...I was a loosie anyways! <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

I played number eight five times in 2nd Division Valley club footy, that stint also coincided with my ten minute stint at tighthead lock!

When I played at eight nobody could get over how much more mobile I had suddenly become around the field. In fact I was no fitter at all.

The difference was I could finally move quickly because my legs no longer felt like jelly after scrummaging at prop.

Graham Purvis who was never the most mobile prop in the world to me his philosophy was if he pushed with all his might every scrum of the game then eventually his opponent would tire and
Be less effective around the field.

Purvy said the best example of this tactic was one game he marked Steve Hotton. Apparently Hotty was so stuffed he went back to the hotel after the game and was fast asleep by 7pm!

Rightly or wrongly I adopted Purvys strategy throughout my club footy. And it was effective. Once you start buckilng the other teams scrum the sting suddenly goes out of their phase play! -
as I grew up I was a #6 trapped in a halfbacks body, it wasnt until I matured and played 1st 15 rugby, we had a FAB at 9, so I had to move...I think I have played every position on the field, except the front row (although does 7's count)

I played a season at halfback in the sixth form.... our backs never saw the ball. And I played one game at centre that year scoring two tries from halfway.

Came on late in a forth form trial game at first five! Had my first clearing kick charged (not sure if it even left my foot), the opposition scored and I was pulled from the field. Actually come to think of it I did play blindside when I was 14. We had a teacher/coach from Natal and he used to take us to his place at lunchtime to watch Currie Cup videos!!!

Other than those exceptions I have only played 1,2 or 3!!!! -
Classic RB - I lasted half a game at second five at school level (4th of 5th form I think). Was playing loose forward at the time, and coach thought a hard straight running 12 would be a good idea. I think the rest of the backline, and the coach thought maybe I was better suited to a single digit jersey after 40 minutes, and that was my last foray into blouse territory...

and yup, going from 1 2 or 3 into a loose forward jersey makes life soo much easier. Not seeing stars when you come up and half to run to a breakdown 20 metres away is so much easier. even between prop and hooker there is a hell of a lot of difference.
