Media release NZR t.a.v. Etene Nanai-Seturo

New Zealand Rugby and Vodafone Warriors reach agreement

New Zealand Rugby (NZR) and the Vodafone Warriors have today reached an agreement following mediation to resolve a dispute arising from Etene Nanai-Seturo’s decision to leave the Vodafone Warriors and sign with New Zealand Rugby.

Under the agreement, Nanai-Seturo has been released from all his obligations to the Vodafone Warriors with all terms and conditions of the release to be kept confidential.

NZR General Manager Rugby Neil Sorensen said they had a productive meeting with the Warriors which resulted in an amicable outcome for both parties, and agreed protocols regarding contracted players switching between the two codes.

“We have an enormous amount of respect for each other’s organisations and we wish each other every success in our respective codes,” said Sorensen.

“We have also agreed on protocols to be followed where either of us is made aware of any player who is interested in changing codes in the middle of their employment. Under those protocols we will be able to avoid this situation arising again in future,” Sorensen said.

Warriors CEO Cameron George welcomed the agreement and said he was looking forward to continuing to have a productive relationship with New Zealand Rugby.

“We need to work together when faced with these situations and it is not in either of our interests for these matters to be aired in public,” he said.

“The Vodafone Warriors wish Etene well with his career.”

As part of the agreement, the parties have agreed no further comments will be made on any matter concerning the dispute.

What hasnt had much publicity is that the Warriors signed this kid to a 5 year deal when he was 15 and then 3 years later he wants out.

The Warriors are clearly doing something wrong.

    All seems fair.

On one hand expecting a 15 year old kid to sign a 5 year deal is a bit shit but then again the Warriors invested time and money in him and deserve to recoup that.

@KiwiMurph yeah, you do have to wonder whether, once he experienced the levels of professionalism within NZR he realised how disney the Warriors were.

@crucial assuming the 15 year old was still at school, and playing rugby for the school how much involvement would the Warriors have had?

I would hope he had attended trainings from time to time but then maybe he didn't and that was part of his decision

@crucial I am sure they would have attended some, but again, what level of input would they have had, given he was playing for and being coached by someone else?

Have to think it would have been limited and more that they had one hand on the potential than anything else?

Baker would be the most annoying NZ rugby player. He just comes across as a real dickhead, even if he is on the team you support.

    Molia needs to perform too.

@bovidae him and Mike Brown separated at birth. From what I've seen of Colin Munro it might have been triplets.

Remember this about Baker in 2008. Always been a dick

A player, trainer and coach have all been suspended from rugby for between three and eight weeks for verbally abusing match officials in two separate games last weekend.

Manawatu fullback Kurt Baker and the team's trainer Paul Hamson were charged with misconduct for allegedly verbally abusing assistant referee Zarne Johnson in an Air NZ Cup match between Hawke's Bay and Manawatu in Napier on Saturday.

Baker was also charged with allegedly threatening Johnson.

The conduct towards Johnson was such that the second assistant referee, Bruce Dockary, felt it necessary to intervene.

I hope they succeed in securing an integrated tournament for NZ for 2020-2023. Plenty of time to find solutions for possible logistical problems. We have one of the two best women's team in the world and it's ridiculous they have no home tournament. It worked well in Sydney, so there's no reason why it can't work in Hamilton (or wherever they'll hold it in future).

Edit: before some ferners start moaning again about the words "equal pay" and ignore that the story is mainly about sevens, the subtitle about "more equal pay for the Black Ferns" is misleading. They're negotiating about including contracts for the elite female XV's players in the collective agreement. There's nothing stated in the article about what they would be paid.

@stargazer I doubt anyone would begrudge the Black Ferns or NZ Womens 7s more money or better pay, it is the mis-leading shitty articles you see in the media saying Read gets this much, captain of Black Ferns gets nothing that pisses people off.

This could also go into the "Stuff sucks" thread...
How the fuck does a New Zealand 'newspaper' misspell their own country's name? In a headline?
Spellcheck? "Zeland" isn't even a word.

    Half time: NZ 7 - 7 Uruguay

Hang your head in shame, NZ! Very poor defensively. Attack missing punch.

Uruguay is not a core nation. Playing surprisingly well, considering.

Second half was better. 28 - 7 to the AB7s at full time.

The new kid - Ngarohi McGarvey Black - is looking promising.

Was it a 2nd string Nz side put out for the game?
