Nothing has changed with the Blues. From the sublime to the utter dogs balls, all within the same play, many times a game.

Sharks played the perfect game to beat the Blues. Keep the scoreboard ticking over, watch the heads go down. Every penalty, take the 3. Every time. Works a treat.

The Blues are what they are, there is only a certain type of person who can coach them. Step forward, Graham Henry.

Without SBW, there is nothing out there to build things off in the back line. Rieko didn’t really suit bringing there, and Faiane appears to get worse each time he comes out. I don’t see any way that back line will really improve.

Btw, why the fuck was Trainor out there? No Clarke? He better be injured Tana.

If Tana had any 'mana' he would step down immediately. Henry would be fine as a stop gap for the rest of the year

I just don't want anymore celebrity coaches

I wish Umaga luck in completing his M2F transition. Fuck off.

@gt12 Clarke is with the AB7s. As a reserve. For the Commonwealth Games.

    @stargazer, ta!

Christ. Not that it would have helped much, but they really need all the talent available.

I feel quite sorry for Blues fans.

Blues were shite but Sharks look to have some very talented players - bodes well for Boks rugby.

Yep. The Sharks' big ball runners caused havoc in the midfield as they always bust through the first tackle or got over the advantage line and off-loaded. Once you breach that first line of defence it is hard to scramble all night. And it was experienced players like Kaino and Parsons missing some of those tackles.

Best goal-kicking performance I've seen in a long time.

Those saying Rieko needs to be playing in the midfield only needed to watch this game. Without space he is nowhere near the player he is on the wing.

Remember Umaga tried to get a contract extension before the season kicked off? An extension that would not have been related to on field results this year

Even he didn't back where his team was heading.

Knowing the Blues they probably gave it to him

I've never seen a coach get more friendly press. The herald has never criticised him.

Now this article doesn't include the words "Tana" "Umaga" or "coach"

I'd love to know the argument for keeping Umaga. The longer he has the team the worse they get.

@kiwimurph The Blues need way more than just a new coach though.

As a Canes and ABs supporter, I have a great love of Tana. But he hasn't hit the coaching level required. He needed to be SR assistant for a few years first. The blues really really need a proven coach, I hope they find one.

The defensive stats don't make for good reading with the Blues missing 1 in 3 tackles. That's on the players.

If they have resigned Umaga for next year,in my opinion both of his assistant are gone burger,Alister the analyst from the All Blacks coaching staff Rogers who has coached nobody should be cut along with Steve Jackson..I would be getting Tom Coventry who is a very highly rated forward coach, his years with Hawkes Bay,the Chiefs and North Harbour in recent times is testament to that.

On this season,I guess if the season was’nt over before this evening it is now..!
I always thought the loss of both Famauina and Luatua would bite, but on saying that the forwards in the main have’nt been to bad this season.
This evening however they were absolutely owned by the Sharks forward pack, rag dolled at times.

While a couple of the franchises have been hit hard with injury, the chiefs and saders especially what is starting to bite is the Blues quality of depth and once again you have got to question the people who recruit.

I also have got to question the leadership, they battled back to regain the lead only to see players kicking the ball away aimlessly,TJ Faine with 2 horrible kicks which gave the sharks ball to run straight back with interest to which the Sharks scored and restored the lead and their confidence

Agreed. But new coach is definitely part of what they need.

@kiwimurph problem is they have already signed Tana for next year..in most cases to save face with supporters, that’s the ones the ones like me that are still dumb enough to support this mob they will probably gas the assistants

The only game where the team turned up at kickoff was the first match against the Highlanders.
Something is badly wrong in the preparation. Are they flogging them during the week?

Watching the home matches live, I would describe both efforts the same way - passive and confused
