What are you listening to, right now................

Was in on my own on Saturday night and flicking through the movie channels hit the start of Once Upon a Time in the West. Now this is one of my favourite movies of all time and arguably my most fave western too. Fonda, Bronson and Robards are epically cool but better still is the long, loving close ups of Claudia Cardinale as Jill. Plus, there's Ennio Morricone's sweeping score including the musical leitmotifs for each character, including Jill's theme, which is just beautiful as you can hear for yourselves.
Good track from the Halloween III soundtrack:
One of my all-time fave movies. The soundtrack is extraordinary. The music was recorded before the film was shot, as an opera with four distinct themes. It's genius. -
The recent kiwi movie Mt Zion revolved around Bob Marley's tour to NZ in 1979. For those interested (looking at you RB), here is the full Dylan Taite doco on Marley made at the time including the footage of the Western springs soundchecks and Maori welcome.

Dylan Taite was a legend as well.
btw the youtube channel I found this has some amazingly rare old vids and clips from the late 70s early 80s NZ scene. I'm even in there (but I'm not telling where) -
Off to a couple of gigs in the next two months. Tool!!! Fark yes - frothing for this
On a totally different note I'm seeing They Might Be Giants at Bodega - another one of those bands I thought I'd never see live. Flood, Lincoln and Apollo 18 are the money albums but they've had a few good songs on albums since.
Everyone loves a 'talent lays undiscovered but finally gets its lucky break' story right?
Well, here's Charles Bradley for you: a sixty-something former James Brown impersonator who may just be the best soul singer you've never heard of.
Live version of Rockin' Chair by The Band. Been on Youtube for nearly 4 years and just 15K views. Shameful!
I'm one of the 15,000 Chris, but I have to say this version is my favourite despite Emanuel sounding as if he's on his last legs (which he probably was).
That is awesome! You're right - the Flying Dutchman really does sound like it's on the reef.

You've doubtless also dug out a few of those videos from 10+ years later of Rick Danko - weighing about 200kg and barely able to whistle his voice out. Sad ends for those two guys. -

A couple times I've cleaned up Richard's grave marker there will be an empty mickey sitting next to it. I don't know whether to chuck it in the garbage or leave it there.
Speaking of Band members on their last legs, a new documentary just opening:
Something a bit different - John Hanlon "Higher Trails" from NZ in the early '70s. Heavily influenced by John Denver, I suspect. <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Was the best known accompaniment to the ski/hang-gliding movie "Off the Edge" which was the biggest thing since sliced bread (or Sleeping Dogs) in NZ movie making at the time. (My parents drove all the way into town to see it!).

Actually, there's some interesting NZ music from around that time if you hunt around the youtube links. Shane Hales "St Paul" - looks like SBW's mini-me. <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> Simple image "Spinning, Spinning, Spinning" (could have been the Byrds), Fourmyula, Alison Hanlon - even Maria Dallas.
Here's the link to SBW pop star! <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
Is that Leslie Ash in the tight silver pants? She never could dance.
