A 6:2 bench split. Is that due to who is available to play in this game?

    Sorry to digress.

But is seems an unnecessary apostrophe.
Was Alex Telea's name spelt wrong all those years ago? Or are these 2 different names? If so what's the difference in pronunciation?

    Genuine question.

I liked the cut of Flynn Thomas's gib when I saw him play a few years ago. Might just have been televised college rugby.

But he's got a hell of a ('near-peer') player in Aumua in his position.

    Shed-loads of goal-kicking options too I think.

The 3 10s (Plummer, Matoe, Trask), plus Faingaanuku on the wing kicked for NZ schoolboys last year. Pus also Carlos Price? although I may just be placing too much weight here on just being the 1st XV kicker.

LOL like that matters - your guys will score more tries per game than most of these sides could score the whole tournament.

In fact, I'd like to implement a system of the NZ team being forced to dropgoal all kicks at goal ๐Ÿ˜‰

At the Oceania tournament, yes. But the JWC is pretty even. NZ have their fallow years and their average years.

They spell their names differently on social media, so I guess it is necessary. You've piqued my interest so I've reached out to a Samoan mate who'll tell me.

I'm interested if Telea is an anglicised spelling of Tele'a, as 1960s/70s NZ bereaucracy didn't know what to do with an apostrohe between 2 vowels ......

I'm quite interested in the way names can change and show the era someone emigrated. E.g. a Poliakoff v a Polyakov etc Vodanovich v Dokic etc.

These games are always messy as boys try to stick to structure but play what's in front. 10 will be interesting battle as well as 8. Matoe and flair v Plummer and workrate of Flanders vs power of Sotutu.

If I recall correct, whenever a vowel follows another vowel in a row there's actually supposed to be an apostrophe, but over time it's been dropped? Most likely wrong though.

@stargazer Cool, we'll get to see what Termain looks like, as he appears to be following the Hugh Renton plan of injuring his way to the top.

First try: Leicester Faingaanuku! You can be sure it won't be his last!

Plummer's kick is good! NZ leads 7-0

Ricky Jackson goes over after a driving maul. At this pace, it will become a massacre.

    Plummer can't convert the try. 12 - 0 NZ

The Tonga Under 20 halfback looks like Folau Fakatava of Hawke's Bay.

Good team try from Tom Christie. Quite easy though. Disappointing defence from the Tongans.

Another conversion from Plummer. 19 - 0 NZ
