Wes Goosen posted on instagram today that he has a broken jaw. He has had surgery.
So I guess he'll be out of action for about 2 months.

Alex Fidow played club rugby yesterday (off the bench). New injury?

@tim Kaifa, Uluafouna, Tofilau and Taulagi are all players who have moved to Hawke's Bay this year. Only Taulagi has a full Magpies contract; the others hope to earn a spot in the Magpies squad via club rugby.

The starting line-up of that Canes Dev squad looks reasonably good, but that bench ..... quite a few Heartland players.

Interesting to see Nathan Vella called up. Does that mean he'll play his club rugby up in Wellington or continue to play for New Brighton down in Chch?

    Full time: Hurricanes Development 36 - 27 Japan 'A' (HT: 12 - 17)

Japan Rugby posted score updates on twitter, but didn't give the names of the Canes' try scorers.

    From the above article:

The Hurricanes lost flanker Sam Henwood to concussion, but No 8 Blade Thomson, in his comeback 40 minutes, was the commanding figure in the first half.

Ihaia West is going to have a great career when a team puts him fulltime at fullback.

    @rapido

So because he scores three tries at first-five eighth he obviously will be better at fullback?

Mercurial is a great word to describe West.

subject to sudden or unpredictable changes of mood or mind.

That pretty much summarises why he's had most of his success off the bench rather then starting and directing a team around the paddock.

I agree with @Rapido I think if he does start, he's better off at 15 injecting himself from time to time rather than constantly touching the ball at 10.

To play fullback full time he will need to improve his ability under the high ball a hell of a lot. Right now it is a real weakness.

According to the article below, he's out for the season. IIRC, I saw on his instagram a few days ago that he has had surgery.

They'll both be desperate to play, along with tighthead prop Alex Fidow. He's done for this Super Rugby season too after snapping a ligament in his big toe.

Illness kept Fidow out of the round-one loss to the Bulls, before he scored a try on debut as the Hurricanes beat the Jaguares in Buenos Aires. An eye-socket fracture saw him spend six weeks on the sideline and now he needs surgery on his toe, after getting injured during his club rugby comeback.

I suppose we will have to wait for the books to come out to find out what went wrong for Boyd, the only Canes coach to win Super rugby.
I guess Carlos wanted to be part of a winning team.....

Didn't Plumtree come along as Boyd's assistant on a hand shake agreement that would see Boyd step aside so Plumtree could take over?
