Do you have a mail client on your computer/phone? Because that should work.

I was in Cambodia one time and all 3 of my emails locked me out - and if I could have got in to any of them I could have opened the other emails.

@canefan thanks mate I may just have to hope my gmail works. Like I say, some it say it works and others say it doesn't. I wish there was a way where you can advise the email provider you are travelling and they won't lock you out- like with credit cards.

@nepia forgive me I am an idiot when it comes to technology, but what is an email client? I have a gmail app if that is what you mean.

@crazy-horse my mother in law got locked out of her hotmail one time here so I set her up a gmail, I think the first time she came back, but I changed the verification email to my one so I would get it for her.

@taniwharugby yeah we did think we may have to use a friend back here in aus to receive the verification email.

It's an app/software that you can set up to aggregate all your email from your accounts - like the Mail app on an iphone.

Weird, after my Cambodia look out I've always used mail clients with no issue.

I've travelled through Europe, Singapore, HK, the Pacific, it works just like at home. If you use your own phone, regardless of SIM card, gmail should recognize you and you shouldn't get the verification email. If you access your mail on another computer gmail sends you a warning email just in case you've been hacked. But why not use your own phone?

    Like Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird etc.

When I travel I just access all my email via Thunderbird.

I think the email account only sends the email to the client - so the email account doesn't realise you're in the US. Don't quote me on that, the techie guys on here can probably explain that better or more accurate.

@taniwharugby I will be in the US. Anyway, I just remembered I changed the email for verifications (I think) on hotmail a while back and there was a 28 day waiting period so that will be no good for me.

@nepia sounds similar to what I used. It was an app that came with my phone (Samsung) so maybe not as good as the one you used?

@canefan I guess what is worrying me is that I used my own phone last time I was overseas and I still got locked out of hotmail. I was using an email app that came with my phone - one where you can link multiple email addresses.

I just use my gmail app. It switches through my multiple gmail accounts. In my experience I've had no problems. I use a vpn at home sometimes. Even when the net thinks I'm in Los Angeles I can check gmail on my pc no problem

@canefan I changed to using a gmail app a few weeks ago so hopefully that will work for me as it worked for you.

I understand why the email providers have done it, but fucking hell it's annoying.
