@mariner4life The opinion part of my post is that Mo'unga needs game time because he's the only specialist in the squad.

Barrett isn't a specialist 10. There's quite a lot of consensus about that. Dmac is a fullback they're trying to convert into a utility 10/fullback. Mo'unga is the only specialist 10 in the squad. That's a fact.

no, I'm with you. Barrett out, because he's not a real 10.

@mariner4life Reading multiple posts is hard, aye? I repeat it again, this is not about Mo'unga vs Barrett, but about Mo'unga vs Dmac for the bench spot.

I've seen nobody argue about Barrett starting. The fact is, that if you have Barrett starting at 10, you don't need Dmac to cover 10 and 15, because Barrett can already cover 15. Especially if they also have BFA in the 23.

no no, stick to your convictions. The only real 10 in squad needs game time. Barrett to the bench.

@mariner4life Ffs, no Barrett starting, and when needed, shifting him to fullback and bringing on Mo'unga at 10 (wearing the 22 jersey).

You sure we couldn't wait until the world cup and then play one of them at 13?

that's the kind of out-of-the box thinking we need to get all our best players on the field at once. Jaw-dee to 6 as well.

Too much groupthink on this forum. Certain opinions taken as gospel and any divergence taken as not having a clue.

We see what RC brings. With Read & Retallick back we should be fine.

DMac was fantastic in the June series. He is easily the bench spot.

Nah he was driving a Rolls Royce pack against a broken down Renault.

    On the squad:
Good that they fucked Fifita off. Although Hansen said he will most likely be back for EOYT.

NMS very lucky. Probably would have been better off playing NPC.

Glad Laumape was the one to drop out of midfield.
He will still get a shot though most likely. Hopefully Goodhue cements his spot.

Still can't wrap my head around the continued obsession with mediocre highlanders loose forwards and the continued snub of Akira.
I just can't fathom why they pick a guy like frizzle because of some hidden (well hidden) potential but Akira is continually left out to work on "something".
Expect Akira to be the Player of the NPC.

Hansen said Hemopo isn't covering lock. So who is? Or are the top 3 going to play in every game?

This is my thoughts too, as a Canes supporter I can't see NMS, Fafita or Laumape deserving of a spot. Hemopo and Frizzell have (soon to be discarded) 'project' and not 'long term ABs' written all over them. Tho I admit I haven't watched as much highlanders stuff, so maybe never even saw Frizzell on the pitch!

And Akira must be an utter cnut during training, maybe he rimmed the coaches coffee mug?

Hemopo has shown he's well up to it, especially for a newbie. Has Frizzell played badly? Easy to see his potential and he's only young.

Very hard to see what more Todd could do to get a shot. NMS I am expecting to see bounce back, surely they must think he's still got improvement left, otherwise that's a dud selection.

@bones Frizell's selection isn't any worse than TTT's really. Both projects.

Todd is going to Japan and was largely to completely unavailable. Bad timing by him since for the first time in his career he had an opening to grab top spot.

I'm mostly fine with the squad. NMS and Wise are there as our right wing options are pretty dire at the moment. Hoping Alaimalo will fill that spot but stil too early for him.

Akira non selection continues to baffle, pretty frustrating given how ordinary our loosies look.

Surely Todd would have asked Hansen if he was in their plans before he signed in Japan. I was under the impression that Hansen said something to that effect when it was first announced. Could be wrong.

    No Akira, no surprise.

    Hemopo leapfrogs Fifita

    NMS retains spot.

The Tongan 'special athlete' reserve 6 for the Highlanders gets in.

It'll be good to see the back of Harris once Dane Coles is fully fit.

No surprise but still pisses me off

The mishandling of Akira reminds me of the story about Ali Williams selection. Henry picked him and Hansen, as the forwards coach, didn’t want him.

Henry Overuled him and Hansen’s response was well I better make him a good player then.

Everyone can see Akiras potential (shown on the field, not phantom potential), shame the coaches dont take the same approach and do some, you know, coaching to fill in Tana and Jackson’s short comings.

Yeah it is. And kind of shame that it is. Will always be special for scoring in an RWC Final.
