Makene also for Canterbury. Going much better than I'd expected, and out of position on the wing too I reckon.

Canterbury's handling really letting them down.

Canterbury replacement props made a difference.

Are you still allowed to kick for goal?

Canterbury are clearly missing guys like, Bird, Funnell and obviously Mo'unga.

Matenga was right. Should've been a penalty for taking him out.

Bridge was well looked after but according to TJ 'very involved, constantly asking questions of the defence'. Haha ok pal.

Sky TV really strain their credibility when they constantly talk up Chris King. Jesus fucking christ.

Good strong finish from Canterbury. They seem to be getting into their groove now as we all knew they would. Romano and Punivai were very good for them today with a strong cameo from Hodgman up front. BOP competed well but fell away towards the end but have done well with a tough start to the comp. They look good for promotion.

Deserved win from Canterbury, but full credit to the Steamers, who made them work for it. Their scrum was impressive. Ardron & Karpik very good, and Tiatia their best back.

Canterbury should start Hodgman and Dunshea, not DLB and Dalzell. Romano, Bridge, Makene and also McKay among the better Cantabs.

Yeah but is that his natural position? I look at the guy - in combination with what little I've heard of his background - and reckon he's a 12.

@shark he’s been a fullback his whole career. But played on wing because Sam Gilbert was outstanding at 15. Personally I don’t think makene will go much further.

Yeah but is that his natural position? I look at the guy - in combination with what little I've heard of his background - and reckon he's a 12.

Is this about Caleb Makene? He started playing at 10 for Napier BHS 1st XV in his first year (2012); a year later he was often moved to centre because they didn't have enough midfielders. He played at fullback for the 2013 Hawke's Bay U18s. In his final year (2014) at Napier Boys, I think he played at 10 again, but he played at fullback for Hurricanes U18 and NZ Schools.

The following year he moved to Christchurch (Lincoln Uni) and played at fullback for Canterbury U19. He played on the right wing and fullback for NZ U20s in 2016.

So Makene's natural position is probably at 10 and/or fullback, while also being a regular on the wing. As far as I know, he's never played at 12.
