ANNOUNCEMENT: Struggling?
-
While I haven't actually joined fatbusters I've been keeping an eye on the thread, did most of my fat shedding last year so I could actually 'do' some pre-season work (ie get fit) for this season.<br />
<br />
As a person who absolutely hated running (flat feet and short legs!!) I've worked hard to change my ideas about it which started with getting some decent running shoes, starting out on grass (not weed) rather than road running, and waiting till I'd dropped a few kegs!!<br />
<br />
For you guys going through the low motivation hours/days/weeks etc don't get too down if you have a bit of time off - you can fark yourself if you overtrain so it makes sense to work some breaks into your schedule. Those health and food shows are right (curse them) the easiest way is to adopt exercise (in whatever form) into your schedule so that it doesn't require you to change your entire day etc... you'll be far more likely to stick to the plan and once it becomes routine you'll be amazed at how easy it is to maintain...<br />
<br />
It's been bloody good to see people exp similar problems and stuff with getting fit and there's nothing better than hearing some dude has dropped the extra tire and is chasing the old lady like an 18yo!!!<br />
<br />
keep it up boys and I look forward to some success stories in the upcoming months (no pressure <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />) -
OK fellas, called in some professional help on my various fatbusting issues, in the form of a bro-in-law who is a personal trainer/gym owner in Sydders.<br />
<br />
Firstly, he believes that the knee problems I'm having that I described to him are due to the patella not tracking correctly in it's movement. This apparently causes pain throughout the whole knee. Why, you ask? Because the vastus medialis which is the inside muscle of the quadricep down by the knee is not as strong as it's opposite muscle of the quad, the vastus lateralis. The vastus lateralis is therefore pulling my kneecap out. Therefore, the vastus medialis is the muscle I have to strengthen up. <br />
<br />
Having reached that conclusion, he's given me a series of exercises that I can do to strengthen it, which might even allow me to make a part time return to running-based training.<br />
<br />
Included in his suggestions are squats, single leg squats, and step-ups. He's also devised circuits I can work on that includes these and others such as pushups, abs, and chin ups. He recommends a session that lasts 40-45 min, and anything significantly more than this means you're not working hard enough in the time. <br />
<br />
Happy days, I can get back into it after developing the speed wobbles. <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> -
Still going MVJ after a bit of a lull but keen as now to fly back into it. Only lost 1kg in the 4 weeks but fark it, that's better than putting it on. Plus I'm getting fit enough to nearly last a full game of touch <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Where do you fellas play? I joined recently at UCL near Euston Station - £110 for 4 months membership (includes gym etc) - not too bad considering London gym prices.<br />

<br />
yep i've had issues patella femoral syndrome for a while now.. am now seeing a dude who actually analyses what specific muscle group is causing the issue, as it's apparently not just as simplistic as the physio 'inside or outside' of the quad that needs strengthening..<br />
<br />
other funny thing is thinking that i'd got thru rugby with a fairly injury free body - but as it turns out it's fucked it good! Knees, shoulders, neck, back.. all = $$$$ for the fix it man! -

<br />
yeah me too Willie, it's interesting that I've had more injuries since hanging up the boots about 6-7 yrs ago, than I did in my entire playing career, which stretched nearly 20 years. :nta How many of these injuries were due to degenerative issues, it's very hard to say, but I suspect some have been. -
Had a struggle a few days ago, but think I'm back on track with some very good work the last two days. Here goes again!
-
Struggling? Yes. Very much. <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol:' /><br />
<br />
Need some choice words from you fellow fatbusters to kick me into action. -
Lost the biggest bet of my life this week. The stake was a Marathon. I hate running with a passion, but I couldn't live with myself if I didn't honor the bet. I wish I bet a triathalon or half Ironman as I am an ok swimmer and cyclist <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol:' /> No time limit as to when it is to be done, but I figure that the sooner I do it the better. Will aim for the Rotorua Marathon next year... whenever that is.
-
OK red bull, you want to end up like a fat fuck like, ahh, Nick the Aussie, a worthless NSWelshman?? <br />
<br />
No?<br />
<br />
Well get off your arse, and join a gym. When you actually have to pay to workout, it makes it even more painful to be missing workouts, as it is costing you!! The more often you go to the gym, the less the workouts cost...<br />
<br />
Hooroo, good man, you have a goal now, so the training will be much easier. Get a plan worked out for you by a pro dickey type, soyou can train for the TWENTY SIX miles of running properly, without injuring yourslef, as, as Prop Cyril would day, you are no shrinking violoet!!! Get proper running shoes, spare no expense, start eating right, and, fuck knows, other stuff!!<br />
<br />
Struggling - me struggling to get the eating spot on at the moment, haven't been getting to supermarket and doing the big weeks buy in, so been eating on the run, toooo much bread. Healthy shit in the bread, but bread is the killer, and the reason I hit the 118kg mark. I would almost eat bread sandwiches, with bread filling - I LOVE BREAD. but it is evil...<br />
<br />
Over n out!! -

Walking is a good way to go. I never get a tube ticket and instead walk from a british rail station every morning. Charing cross to Oxford Street via Traflager Square, Liecester square, Soho is a really brisk 20 min walk.... plus 10 minutes each way from my house to the train station means..mean I do a brisk walk for an hour each day. Over a week it really adds up. And it isnt all about thrashing your heart for short bursts irreguraly, its also about getting your heart rate eleveated for extended periods. So start walking, but do it briskly.
