I'm not sure if it was the first, I think it might have been the 3rd? TISM played as well as I remember. Those early ones blend into one for me these days.

Going to see Future Islands next month. Really like some of their old singles (<a data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='

I was backstage at a Soundgarden show in '91 or 92 and saw the most beautiful woman I'd ever laid eyes on -- dunno who she was, she was exotic, great looking with style and class, and plainly obvious she was Chris Cornell's date, so the comment above makes me chuckle.

I was never a big grunge fan, and can't compare records because I was never a big enough fan, but I saw most of the grunge bands multiple times between 1991-'93, and in a live performance imho Nirvana were clearly superior to all of them. It also seemed to me in performance and recordings that where most of the Seattle grunge scene leaned metal, Nirvana leaned more to Husker Du and Killing Joke, being more propulsive with higher energy and better songs.

Based solely on the recorded material: Nirvana were highly overrated IMHO, and even more so once their dickhead lead singer put his head all over a wall. I was more into Pearl Jam, but that faded over time ... maybe as I lost more hair? They still have some good stuff though and I can listen to particular tracks and still have it rock me like when I first heard it.

Chuck Klosterman's unabashed "THE DEFINITIVE ONE-SIZE-FITS-ALL, ACCEPT-NO-SUBSTITUTES, MASSIVELY COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE TO THE LIFE AND TIMES OF KISS" is well worth a read, very entertaining.

6. Due to its nonexistence (there is not even a script), deducing the plot to The Elder solely from its corresponding music is more or less impossible. It appears to be set in a version of the past that is actually the future, focusing on a boy recruited by a medieval organization called the Order of the Rose. A British metal writer named Seb Hunter is currently trying to make this film happen, but there’s absolutely no chance Kiss will give him the rights to this music. Which means we will eventually have the soundtrack to a film that does not exist and a film inspired by a soundtrack it can’t actually use.

Speaking of Nirvana, I thought Lorde did a reasonable job filling in for Kurt here:

I just got back from Bluesfest in Byron Bay so thought I'd post a few of the acts I saw that I really enjoyed - although in most cases I expect a Youtube vid wont do the live shows justice.

It was a great weekend, lots of good acts, only one or two shitty ones that we stumbled upon, the food was good, the traffic was fine (no long waits getting out), and the weather was awesome ... when it usually rains the entire festival. It was an interesting crowd as per usual, lots of old people, lots of families with parents and teens/just out of teens children all hanging out together, lots of little kids and their ultra trendy parents ... every second person was wearing a fedora. Jegga would have been constantly spitting at all the 'greenies' wandering by. The music might not be up to the tastes of all you bogans that seem to frequent this thread ;).

Anyway, the main act I wanted to see was Dave Mathews Band and they played two nights. On their second night we managed to be in the front row which was awesome. So here's DMB with Grey St to kick it off:

At one stage we were sitting in the main tent watching a mellow artist play an ok set when I could hear the percussion thumping from one of the other tents. So I decided to go and check the other tent out and came across Nahko and Medicine for the People - who I had never heard of, and they were one of the top three acts I saw all weekend. This is "Black as NIght".

The other performance in my top 3 was Michael Franti and Spearhead. Franti has definitely changed from his Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy days, hell even since I last saw them about 7 years ago. They ended their set with singing over a bunch of dance tracks on an Apple computer which was kind of funny. I can't find a decent live clip so this one will do.
