We were in town on Saturday, only visited the wharf area ( mrs was picking up her Auckland marathon pack)
Their were a fuck ton of them lying around and being used.
Give the number of ACC claims in such a short time how long to they disappear? -

I don't mind the idea but they probably go a bit fast given how many idiots there are in the general populace, and I've heard the breaks are pretty sensitive in that they stop the scooter dead while your body keeps moving forward. So not surprising there's been a bunch of accidents. I doubt they'll last very long - at the very least they need to get them off the footpath so people riding them can take the risk if they want without knocking others over.

I'm just waiting for Auckland Transport to make an announcement that being sensitive to safety and trying to get people out of cars, they are putting e-scooter lanes all through the CBD

I don't know why but MSM have a raging boner for the cost of dentistry right now and it is pissing me off. I had a guy come in late today, who is not a regular dental attender. As a result of not taking adequate precautions such as a regular exam and x-rays he needs a root canal treatment that will cost him the equivalent of 7 years worth of routine exams at my practice (we are not the cheapest nor the most expensive, so he might get up to 12 years of exams somewhere else).
There was a lady on Sunday last night, she bemoaned the fact that dentistry was so expensive, a dentist ended up doing the treatment for free as a publicity stunt. She needed 13 extractions and some partial dentures. Perhaps if she looked at her basic oral hygiene and her diet she might not have been in that mess???
Fucking pisses me off, in this age of not wanting to take accountability that we need to find something or someone other than ourselves to blame, like expensive dentistry or that pervasive advertising that forced her to shove all those sodas and sweets in her gob instead of spending a few bucks on a good toothbrush some floss and fluoride toothpaste, and learning how to use them properly.
I know I'm probably preaching to the choir a bit on an informed platform like TSF, but the path to good dental health is pretty easy for the majority of the population.
Brush teeth properly 2x day
Floss daily
Eat a reasonably low carb/refined sugar diet (high frequency intake is bad)
Get a regular check up from the dentist. It will cost less than an annual service for your car, approximately the equivalent of 30 to 40 $5 coffees, or a couple of big nights (or one big night) on the bash. It's that simple. Rant over

@canefan how important is the flossing. Asking for a friend, but brushing regularly seems straightforward, but never really got into the daily flossing habit. Maaybe once a week or two ...
Floss every tooth you want to keep mate. Use thin floss, Colgate is fine. Just don't Johnson and Johnson reach floss because it's shit. It should never hurt, check this out. Should take no more than 60 seconds

@canefan TBH, I brush twice a day, floss, use mouth wash, eat pretty well, but I have had 2 extractions, think I have 1 tooth that is still 'perfect' I have one of my molars that will have to be extracted soon as I cant afford the $1200-$1400 to sort it, thats without all the other work I know I need done.
The only thing my teeth have going for them is they are straight.
When I lived in the UK, I had a regular check ups, and if I had a filing at the same time, £25, in NZ a check up is >$100, plus a filling if required is >$200.
Granted in the UK I was with an NHS dentist, but simple fact is, our household income is probably average for NZ< but dental cost is extortionate.
I had a bridge done when in the UK, £600, came back to NZ, $4,500 to replace...my wife had to have an implant, $10,000 plus monthly trips to Auckland for a year.
I had to get a root canal doen in Auckland, partially covered by ACC (childhood injury) still cost me $1800, 3 visits to AUckland 2 years ago.
So I respectfully disagree with you as it isnt as simple and straight forward as you make it.
While the main part of the story focussed on that lady, the point they should have been focusing on is why is your body's health covered by the Govt subsidised health system, but your mouth, which plays a big part in overall health, not?
