Your examples are about being contrary though, not following local customs. So, in India I'd probably go vege for a while.

Dog in Korea was easily the worst thing I've ever eaten, and I don't understand why anyone would eat that shit.I feel the same way about Crocodile, and bear, which was pretty bad.

BTW. Is fugu that puffer fish that'll really fuck jo your day if it's prepared wrong?

Yes. I don't see any sense in eating something that can kill you quick. It can't taste that good

    @booboo

Yes, it is. As sashimi it's actually bloody boring, but on sushi with yuzu or deep fried, it is fucking awesome.

although TBF I think you see the signs and can avoid that easier than the dice you roll with the fish that would show no external signs it will kill you

Clearly evidence by the fact we are still alive!

I have a ready made map for you, and I'll update it before you come. Just pm me beforehand.

If you are going to Hokkaido, you should also get @MiketheSnow to give some suggestions. I think @Samurai-Jack is in the fucking sticks near Utsunomiya, so he's probably pretty fucking hopeless except for suggesting you try the gyoza, which is fucking Chinese anyway. No doubt he'll show up with some great recommendations now.

All I can say is that if you pussies are afraid of a trying a little fish, just because it might kill you, you've lost the front rower feeling.

Then, I'm your man. I'll try to point you in the right direction.

If you haven't booked hotels yet, let me know a budget (going large or not) and I can point you to places that don't use booking.com etc.

no we are struggling for accomodation!! seems pretty hard to find for the four of us.

Budget isn't a huge issue, but we're not made of money

I love LOVE bluff Oysters and honestly thought there could be no better oyster on the planet! Then in June I was in Borrough Market in London and had fresh "Irish" oysters shucked at point of sale and I think I have a new favourite. I wish I could have had a freshly shucked Bluffie at the same time to confirm.

    It was amazing

I had some at the Borough market a couple of months ago. Ate some "local" oysters from the stall near the front entrance which were oval shaped like the bluff oyster (Cornish?). Tried some French ones at a stall further in, some were super salty (rock), others were also similar to a bluff oyster. The deep water ones were the goods

oh shit i really want to try Whale

I worked with an old guy that tried it , said it was pretty average and stunk the house out . Also full of Mercury these days.

I'm told even the Japs don't like it. These days it is a face thing. I went to a restaurant in Shinjuku that sold whale sashimi, horse sushi too. I didn't partake but the various preparations of fish roe were unexpectedly nice. My mate ate horse sushi in Tokyo and said it was beautiful

@mariner4life Tokyo is like foodie Disneyland. Cold fresh soba (my personal favourite), yakitori from chicken pork eel or any other animal you can find, pork katsu cutlet or the more luxurious wagyu crumbed cutlet (how you deep fry a crumbed steak perfect medium rare I'll never know), udon, sushi, I defy you to have a shit time. High end or low end and everything in the middle, all the stuff we ate was top notch. They are crazy about coffee too so if you like you should have a crack. You bastards, now I'm really hungry!!!

@bovidae Row 34 in Boston has a “Raw Bar” where you can order oysters from a menu and wash it down with some really decent beers. Union Oyster House was disappointing for oysters(!) but their “chaddah” was really good. Cool old building too.

Damn, I take a break from the Fern for a few hours and the (new) seafood thread powers on and then eventually becomes an all food thread.

Rarotongan Ika mata is an awesome seafood dish too (although some resort restaurants on the island tend to just throw stuff in that only really approximates real Ika mata).

I've had Irish oysters in Ireland and still prefer Bluff but then I flew to Bluff from Akl for the day just to eat oysters.

Agree about paua done well it's very good. Havent been able to try rotten cray and to me that is illogical.

Pretty much the only thing from the sea I can't abide is sea cucumber although I haven't had whale. I have had seal and it wasn't great.

I don't have an issue with eating different foods dog was OK insects are / can be good - Cobra blood shooters are just an excuse to brag.

Croc is OK but a bit bland - like snake. Roo ostrich all the darker meats are good. Balut is actually quite nice although very rich. Heard mixed reports on guinea pig sparrows a lot of effort from not much return
