Liverpool draw 0-0 at Everton. That is two goalless draws in a week. Man City a point clear at the top of the table.

Along with daffodils and the sound of cuckoos, the English Spring is heralded by the Liverpool FC players bottling it. No wonder it is soooooooooo many years since that club last won the League.

Even before this sacking I was only musing yesterday how tragic it is to have given up on your team before March.

TBF we didn't get the Premiership winning Ranieri but the real issue has to be with the leadership of the club and more specifically recruitment.

We spent $100 mill over the summer bringing in 12 players which clearly unsettled the side. More importantly we did nothing to address the obvious defensive frailties. The Manager has negligible influence on who is bought and I wonder if the owners stick their nose into selection as well in order to try and justify their purchases as some of the teams chosen have been bizarre.

On top of all that some of the really high profile signings have simply not fronted and Ranieri has refused to play the key players from last season.

Must be something wrong with the culture in the squad as well because they have now twice this year demonstrably given up trying for two different gaffers.

All so different to 12 months ago. Fulham is clearly a vanity project for Shahid Khan who is demonstrating he is the worst king of owner. Both times we've gone down on his watch he's gone through 3 Managers in a season. It's inexcuseable. Despite its shortcomings the Fulham squad should not be in this position. I truly believe we probably would have been better off with last seasons starting line up.

    Fucking disgraceful.

oh this has appointing Sam Allardyce written all over it.

    Yuck.

    BAN HIM!!!

No way Sam A will take over Fulham now even if they wanted him. He's the master of making a team difficult to beat and Fulham can't survive with 0-0 draws

yea, bottling it. Lost once all season, those absolute cowards.

Fucking Everton, little brother wouldn't play that had against anyone else. Fuckers.

It's so shit that Liverpool will set a club record for points scored in a season and come 2nd. Fucking City.

Same with Spurs I think. Hard to beat those petro-dollars. Financial fair play working?

i have no problem with it. Soccer has been a financial arms race for a couple of decades really. It's either petro-dollars, or your club was lucky enough to be good at a time that the profitability of the league exploded. So have a good crack at it, and if you do amazing, but still get beat, then thems the breaks.

It's not like Liverpool is a cheaply assembled team of plucky locals. It's not like any of the top sides are.

That last arsenal pen should never have been given, if the prem had VAR I reckon both pens would not have been allowed. A lucky escape for us, we are struggling to recapture our form since Kane got back

Do you think they have to play a different style with Kane back compared to when Son was leading the line?

I'm not sure. The formation is slightly different but I would have thought having Harry back would force defenders to mark more closely and open space for the others. Perhaps the fighting mentality they showed while he was away has gone because they sub consciously ball watch? We are always good for a few big errors and lately we have been made to pay for them. The mistake that lead to the Ramsay goal was farcical

Excellent analysis on Liverpool and what has gone wrong for the Scousers. They remain rock solid in defence but are not clinical enough in front of goal to be champions:

Man City have won 16 of their last 17 games in all competitions. That's phenominal. Made to look even better when you realise they have a few guys out.

Surely they need to go on an win the Champs League to prove they are at that next level?

That is their obsession. Just like PSG they won't be considered a major European power until they do

We have to hope they concentrate on that and we just go full attack mode. Pointless playing safe and hoping they'll slip up - they simply won't.

Infuriating to have only lost one game at this point of the season and not have the title wrapped up.

As an aside, there is a quite brilliant series running on Football365 of a guy playing Champ Manager 01/02, starting with a team in the 3rd division. I never even played the game (but had a couple of mates who did) but it's weirdly compelling. The guy is a pretty good writer.

@mariner4life Yeah, I don't agree with the "bottling it" merchants. With the squad and manager they've got, all the financial resources, the more than favourable cup draws, City will have bottled massively if they don't win from here.

And this is the ray of hope for a 'Pool team who may - I repeat may - be coming out of a mid-season slump with a comparatively easy run home in the League. There's no way City can finish the rest of the League season without dropping points when you factor this in.

I think only Spurs have "bottled it" in the title race - an early game at Burnley where they could have got within touching distance of the top 2 and they blew it. Making the race for 3rd and 4th between 4 teams instead of 3 teams fighting it out for 4th.

Strangely both City and Liverpool haven't hit the heights of last season in their performances but up until recently, Liverpool were finding a way of winning the narrow games. Not City have had 2 x 1-0 wins on the bounce. Title race is far from over at this point but both clubs will know anything less than a win isn't good enough in any game.

Meanwhile Spurs are going nicely so far in Dortmund and there is a potential boilover with Ajax 2-0 up away to Real Madrid.

huge result this morning with Ajax making out like it's the mid-90s and smacking Real at the Bernabau (is that two losses in two big games at home in 4 days for Real?).

I am not going to give Spurs too much shit actually, they have the smallest wage bill of the big 6, and the smallest squad. They are also desperately trying to finish a stadium, which i assume is why the transfer market has been ignored. I reckon they are doing a pretty fine job, but they are just tired. Considering they are 3rd, and now through to the next round of the Champs League, it's still looking a pretty fair season.
