Plenty of classic and more modern "live" albums contain a lot of studio overdubbing too.
It apparently inspired a wave of live albums that were similarly overdubbed . The book gives a great rundown on how the studios screwed over bands and squeezed every last cent out of them before dumping them .
Tony Iommi doesn’t come out of the book well , Dio is probably the only one who does -

Awful , just like her father . Tony Iommi fucked her when she was a teenager and wouldn’t leave his wife for her so she spent a lot of time making his life miserable.

The Arden/Levy family (Sharon and both parents) seem really dysfunctional and vindictive. But Sharon shafts anyone if it makes her and Ozzy money.
Perry Farrell told her Ozzy wasn’t cool enough for Lollapalooza when she tried to get him on the bill so she set up Ozzfest to spite them which became bigger and outlasted Farrell’s festival.
She bailed out Iommi and paid his legal bills in the 90s when he was arrested for not paying child support, she made him give her the Black Sabbath name in return so they could only use it on her terms . It worked out ok when they reformed as Heaven and Hell with Dio as a singer , they got a tour and an album that charted . Iommi had completely discredited the Sabbath name anyway by using the band as a way of supporting his coke habit and becoming spinal tap in the process .

Apparently Tool have way more fans in NZ per capita than anywhere in the world.
Personally I could take or leave them, some decent tunes but to me there were always better bands out there.
History isn't exactly littered with bands producing new albums that are anywhere near their best after such a long layoff but Tool fans sure are a hopeful bunch.......even more so than Warriors fans.
