I watched most of the U20 games this year and though that Grace was one of the weaker players in the side. Surprised he's being picked as a Canterbury starter.

I didn't know that, but it adds fuel to the fire.

Another midfield combo and locking pair

you talking us or you 😉

Doesnt matter who you roll out this week, 5 points in the bank.

Yeah, probably. But all the more reason to use the game to add momentum to combinations and/or give guys confidence for tougher games to come.

Actually, you know which Canterbury vs Northland match this reminds me of? A few years back and I think Jake Parangitai was the only 'name' player in the Northland XV and Canterbury pumped them by 80 odd. I hope it's more competitive than that.

@shark I hope so too, but given our current injury list which equates to half a team of probable starters, I am not holding my breath....

I just hope we put up a good fight.

As an aside, Jake was more than a few years back, probably a dozen for that game 😉

How DARE YOU question my usage of the word few'. For that, I hope we put 100 on.

    🙂

@shark apparently last time we beat you was 1999...20 years seems a long enough drought 🙂

Clear headclash, players signal it immediately, but ref ignores it. Not good.

@taniwharugby Correct me if I'm wrong but I seem to recall prop Nick White kicking a goal from the sideline in that game haha.

Good to see Canterbury keeping up the trend of starting midget locks.

Bloody hell, the amount of times we’ve tried little chips and grubbers this year and ended up under our own posts... very nearly happened again.

The handing has been horrendous from both sides so far.

Same old shit from our backs and especially Hohaia, fumbling passes putting us on the back foot.
How hard is it to get the bloody basics of rugby right?
Now they score off the back of it.

    For fuck sakes, game over.

I don’t remember one bounce of the ball going our way this season.

That ball came out of the scrum, should have been a penalty to northland against Douglas for kicking it back in.

And a bullshit penalty that last one was against Matich, especially when the ref let 2 Canterbury guys fly in off their feet a couple rucks earlier.

Copy and paste from any other Northland thread this season.

Basic mistakes, dropped balls, poor discipline.

Concentration lapses costly...still nothing on attack.

Body shapes of our forwards vs theirs...pro v amateurs

Get the ball, hold the ball, win the contact, build pressure.

The small mistakes stop momentum and turn over ball. Starting to lose penalty count as well.

Hope we score early and make a game of this.

@kev yep, another early and they will run away with it.

We must score early, especially as we will run out of steam sooner

    still nothing on attack.

J Deb standing flat footed and deep as buggery, passing to a flat footed forward who gets steam rolled by the defence, or a back who fumbles it. Not a good formula to try and attack from.
