@MajorRage Simon Wright. I don't know much about ACDC, was he one of their lesser known drummers? I wont tell the kid that...

He played on 3 albums in the mid to late 1980s.

@Bovidae cool, seemed pretty down to earth. Told a cool story about when he auditioned, he answered an ad in a music mag. It said "if you dont hit hard, don't apply".

He turned up, was told to play 3 songs, an ACDC one plus 2 non-ACDC ones. Had no idea who he was auditioning for.

Got a call 3 hours later, saying could he come back tmrw. He said no, had no cash to get back. The dude said don't worry, get a cab, we'll cover it.

Got to the studio, saw a bunch of kit labelled ACDC amd freaked out a bit. Got shown into the recording room where the band was chatting. He said to Malcolm "hey, does this mean I'm in the band?". Malcolm shrugs and says to him "I guess so".

    Good stuff that.

@voodoo Simon Wright was almost 20 when he joined AC/DC so I can imagine it would have been a shock at that age.

ACDC have great audition stories. Didn't Brian Johnson actually miss his because he was too busy down stairs in the waiting area drinking beers and playing pool with the crew guys? And that pretty much cemented him getting the gig

Went to one of the best gigs I've ever seen last night - Shonen Knife at the Whammy Bar in Auckland.

Been listening to a bunch of their newer stuff all day, like this

@Machpants I'm sure it'a direct contradiction to earlier top 5 posts, but this song is one my fave evers.

Made famous by the covers band "Mama Said" which played at the JBC bar opposite the outback in Hamilton ... usually played right after "Same in the end" by Sublime

    Good times.

Still no better song written ever to just sit and make you reflect. Stunning.

I love that song but only just realised its sung from the perspective of a dead man. Only took me 30 years or so.

On the 28th Feb I will be listening to TOOL at Vector - snared some presale tickets. Double celebration as we'll have a 2 week (ish) old baby in late Feb, luckily the missus is supportive of my life goals ha ha.

@Paekakboyz They've just added a second show. I saw them the last time in NZ as I happened to be working in Auckland that day and there were still tickets available.

they are still my favourite band, but i am not making the effort to go see them

I saw them on the Lateralus tour and i wasn't impressed with the show. Great musicians, pretty boring concert. Not worth spending the $1,000+ to go
