@Chris Oz would be on the plane home without him!

See if you can find a New Zealand grandparent for him. Shane Howarth might be able to help! 🙂

Not likely mate there is a Hugh amount of players here in Australia with Kiwi parentage but they are keen to stay in the more powerful Australian system, Cricket Australia make a lot of money.Rookie contracts are handed out to all u/19 players and some identified u/17 players the State systems I have a young player who is 16 I coach he has a contact already, so they are paid to ward of AFL who target the big tall young athletes.
Cricket here is a big business.

@Snowy Look no further than the NZ Women today! Capitulating vs SA.

From the little I've read, they like the look of Adithya Ashok - an Indian legspinner. He's only 16 so eligible for another go at the U19s, but did well vs Sri Lanka.

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/cricket/113414213/meet-the-new-legspin-whiz-new-zealand-cricket-will-unleash-on-australia

He did well in the crunch match vs Sri Lanka...and you can see guys who scored runs.

@Chris Doesn't surprise me - but we pick up the odd one who sees more chance of playing international cricket for NZ.

In many ways it's a wonder we're even remotely competitive with India and Oz given their vastly greater resources - players and cash!

NZ do very well considering Its like Fiji competing against the AB's with money, population and resources being miles apart.
I have coached in India a wee bit with a link to the Hyderabad Academy thats even a great level than Australia but held back by corruption within the system.

So who are the players in the team that will let me down for the Black Caps in the future?

I am a little cynical after the Aussie tour.

I would say this is possibly our weakest U19s squad since ... I dont know certainly since at least 2006 as 2008 is far back as I can remember.

More balanced than our last tournament though, which had good batting but really weak bowling .

But , of these guys - the 2 spinners Ashok and Tashkoff, plus Wheeler-Greenall (both his batting and spun) look promising.

This team will struggle for top order runs and or early wickets, by the looks.

Actually, giving it more thought. Our 2014 team were also weak. So I may be rubbishing them too much.

Our 2016 team was fantastic, on paper, almost rivalling the 2008 alumni of Kane, Southee, Boult, Corey. But flopped big time and didn't even make the cup draw.

So, just need 3 or 4 good players per cycle. Problem is how few bowlers have been in our recent good 3 or 4 players.

    We're playing the Windies tonight.

In QF1, Australia held India to 233 and then it was their turn to bat.....the formatting is a bit shit, but you get the picture.

    0.6
    1
Kartik Tyagi to Davies, 1 run,
    0.5
    W
    Kartik Tyagi to Hearne, OUT,
    LD Hearne b Kartik Tyagi 0 (2m 1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

    0.4
    W
    Kartik Tyagi to Harvey, OUT,
    MW Harvey lbw b Kartik Tyagi 4 (3m 3b 1x4 0x6) SR: 133.33

    0.3
    4
Kartik Tyagi to Harvey, FOUR runs,

    0.2
    0
Kartik Tyagi to Harvey, no run,

    0.1
    W
    Kartik Tyagi to Fanning, OUT,
    J Fraser-McGurk run out (Saxena) 0 (2m 0b 0x4 0x6)

End of over 1 and Oz are 5/3 and pretty much thanks for coming - though they battled to 159.

Wow! That really was some win given they were chasing and were 153/8. Super big knocks from the tail-enders

Interesting to compare the two innings. The west Indies went from 183/3 to 238 all out in 47.5. We batted 49.4 and recovered from 67/4 to 148/5 before falling to 153/8.

And we go where England and Australia couldn't - and tip over the Windies.

Caught the end of the West Indies innings - Kristian Clarke looks sharpish with the ball and finished them off bang, bang - including the guy who retired hurt on 99 with debilitating cramp with a yorker that Timmy could have done with. Then Clarke comes out and swings the bat when we were down and out to sneak us home.

Assuming Wikipedia has the draw right, we will play the winner of the Bangladesh-South Africa QF, which (as above) I'm inclined to think is the weaker of the two remaining QFs.

@Hooroo Windies kids indiscipline in batting out the full 50 overs cost them the game.

Watched a bit of the WI-NZ game, as well as the Ind-Aus. Both Aus and NZ teams fought till the end in the face of top order collapses - very good to see the temperament from the kids.

Ind-NZ final looks quite probable, and I think its a 50-50 game - this Indian unit is not nearly as strong as last time - the batting is good, but not great - Jaiswal and Garg are very promising and proficient, but they are not ready for prime-time stars like Prithvi Shaw and Shubman Gill were. The biggest difference is the bowling - the pace bowlers Tyagi and Akash are not dominant. Decent, but not stand-outs.

@newsjunkie Have you seen anything of the Afghanis? They might trouble India more than us if they get past Pakistan. They thumped South Africa.

Clarke's 46 was the highest score by a No. 10 in the Under-19 World Cup history while their partnership was the highest for the ninth wicket in a chase.

And they make the semis, after all I said, which is NZ's equal second best placing.

Interesting looking at some of the history of NZ teams in this tournament.

Our best finish was in 1998 when we were losing finalists to England. That team produced 4 players were fairly regular blackcaps over the next decade; Franklin, Mills, Vincent, H Marshall. (plus 3 fringe blackcaps; J Marshall, B Martin, P McGlashen in a format or 2)

At the time; Franklin was a bit of youth star in NZ. Not sure if he had played senior cricket though at that time.

Our best team was 2008, losing semi final to a very strong India who were eventual champions. That team produced 3 NZ superstars; Williamson, Southee, Boult, and another regular blackcap in Corey Anderson. Doug Bracewell also in that squad but was very young and a minor contributor.

At youth level at the time; Williamson, Anderson and Southee were already massive, while Boult was more the anorak's spotter'badge choice

Also had a very good team in 2010, at home, lost in quarter-final to Australia, Disappointing on paper but strong Aus team with Hazlewood. That team had Latham, Neesham, Anderson and D Bracewell as products to feature regularly over next decade.

That team had a strong youth fast bowling attack of Small, Wheeler, Bracewell. But the notable thing was the bowlers who didn't make it from that mini-generation; Henry, Milne, Fergusson, Kuggeleijn. I think Milne made his blackaps debut a few months later.

No, Looking at the archive he actually had a good national U19 tournament.

Then made the CD team late in the season after some good Hawke Cup games for Manawatu.

Rather than "a few months later" as i said - It wasn't actually until early the next season, after a Champions League T20 tournament, that he made the Blackcaps (in the Hadlee/Turner days of throwing young kids in and seeing if they float).
