What about Steads "pre-planned break" for this series? Wild.

Pretty typical for most leaders to plan their breaks to coincide with major competitions, I mean, there really is no other opportunity this year for him to head to the caravan park and relax with the fam.

    My immediate thoughts too.

I do wonder if there were any outside commitments like a relative's wedding or something.

    Otherwise it seems weird.

My point was is there a reason from outside hi control that it was pre-planned?

If there is, share. If not ... I'm gobsmacked. So can only assume there is.

They sure seem to be making a pretty simple game, unnecessarily complex.

@booboo right, got it. I'm only back for a couple of days, haven't seen the news here in years. What got me was how matter of fact/run of the mill the excuse was that they rolled out, like it would be swallowed up by us all at face value. Just bizarre.

"No, this has always been pre-planned," Jurgensen said.

"So I've been planning for it for a while to look after this series.

"It's been happening throughout the summer, I've had breaks, other coaches have had a break to freshen up and get ready for the other challenges ahead after this series."

This is still not optimal IMO. The boss takes time off in the busiest time of the year? Bizarre in any organisation. Ridiculous in one one performing so terribly at the moment.

@Siam it's idiotic if true, and more likely, just plain lies

The fans don’t get any respite from this summer of cricket, not sure why Stead gets to escape his own timidity for a week...

@Donsteppa it's not even just escaping, it's abandonment. It's like Comyn taking 2 weeks off over the exact period that he was scheduled to be on the docks with the royal banking commission.

    It's just absurd.

Pre-planned. After we lose 8 in a row we stick to the plan huh?

There'll be some sound bites again soon about how important it is to be " flexible" in your plans as a " coaching unit"

Staggering how much confidence in this team I've lost in less than 6 weeks!

    Again, my point.

You don't plan a holiday during the middle of a home tour by fucking INDIA!!

So if there is a legit reason for said break then tell us. If there is I'll buy it.

    Otherwise it's complete crap.

    Coney agrees.

It's just weird. Who comes up with - and authorizes this plan?

Seems like the brains at NZ Cricket departed when Hesson left the building.

I'm starting to seriously dislike Stead. It would appear that he is not only a shit coach but a lazy one to boot.

There had better be a fucking good reason for this leave (something he should be teaching some of our batmen).

Think we're really starting to see just how good a coach Hess was. Stead rode on his coattails for a while but now things are getting tough he's looking more and more out of his depth at this level.

I'm starting to get that Andy Moles feeling...

Stead did a good job for Canterbury, but maybe that's his limit as a coach.

So other than the rat leaving the sinking ship are we getting anybody back in player wise? Boult, Ferg, Guppy healthy? CDG had his holiday?

@Snowy Quite a few changes from the T20 squad - Blundell, Latham, Neesham, Nicholls and Kyle Jamieson come in. Seifert, Munro, Tickner, Bruce and Mitchell depart.

Plus Little Kane is ruled out and Mark Chapman comes in for him.

I'm inclined to think all of the incoming are likely to be upgrades except obviously not Chapman for Kane.

Jamieson is untried, but I'm interested to see how he goes. He might not be an upgrade on Tickner, but probably won't be much of a downgrade - if at all.

I can answer my own question:

Kane still out, as are Boult and Ferg. Neesh is back.
