This fight has been pencilled in for a while. It finally got confirmed today

This is a tough fight for Hooker. A victory gets him the mix with the huge names of the division - Khabib, Gaethje, Ferguson and that Irish guy who probably isn’t retired

@Duluth Pourier is an elite striker. This is someone that soundly beat Max Holloway, 2 times. I can’t see Hooker winning but I’ll be cheering all the way.

Max gets his belt back. I love both these guys but I think Holloway will be much better this time.

I'm a fan of both fighters too. Volkanovski is the only guy in the division I cheer for ahead of Max.

That first fight was dominant from Volkanovski, Hollway would have to make significant changes. It was slightly closer towards the end but Volkanovski had a broken hand by then..

One thing that might be in Max's favour is the camps. I assume he's doing his normal preparation.

Alexander normally finishes his fight camp in Auckland but he can't do that this time because of covid. He claims it won't matter but it has to be a negative.
Riddell is one of his striking coaches and surely being around Adesanya and Hooker must help sharpen things up

Some news about Adesanya's next title defence. He's pencilled in to headline a card in Vegas this September.

That small APEX octagon might help Costa

Riddell talks about the card in this interview:

Hooker looked bloody huge at the weigh-ins and came in half an lb lighter than Pourier. I hope we get knees and feints from Hooker this time out. He's not the stand and trade fighter he thinks he is. He needs to be a sniper against Dustin.

    Spot on.

Toe to toe will end badly.

Crazy finish to that fight. Getting his ass handed to him and Greene pulls off the sub from the back.

@Duluth wow! That’s a fight of the year contender in any year let alone this one. Had the 2nd round been 10 seconds longer it would have been a different story. Hooker should have stayed with the leg kick man! He had something that was seriously troubling Pourier but Hooker decided to stand. He ran out of gas.

Dustin post fight breakdown of “flashing out” to a Hooker knee was great stuff. Good to hear some actual technical breakdown from a fighter rather whatever the fuck was going on with Perry’s post fight.

Amazing fight. Dan needs to work on his fitness and defence but he's shown he can at least hang with the top guys. Stock definitely went up.

Great card with some big upsets and turnarounds.

Hooker is tough as fuck fair play.

But ultimately his game plan let him down.

As said above, should have hacked not hooked.

@mofitzy_ I think he has problems with his reflexes or depth perception. He seemed to react to the jab just before it hit him. Like he didn't see it until it was hitting him. Now I know some of you are going to say "well isn't that how punches work? It's the ones you don't see that do the damage?" Well yes and no. You can see a punch coming and still get hit. If you miscalculate your opponent's reach and speed you can still see it coming and brace accordingly but still get caught. Dan doesn't do that. He gets hit with multiple punches and it's like he doesn't see any of them coming. He had a substantial reach advantage and only threw a few jabs per round. Pourier is an elite boxer for MMA though. Still, Dan's work was all close-quarters stuff. I'm not saying there's definitely something wrong but it wouldn't surprise me if there was.

    @raznomore

He does seem to get hit as lot.. On that, I was just checking the stats to see what Poirier's striking %age was.

    Stats | UFC

    Significant Strike %
    Poirier 66%
    Hooker 61%

That seems crazy for a five round fight with two guys that have plenty of KO's

I was wondering when people in the US would start talking about this

    It's extremely unlikely.

The fighters could quarantine and train in a hotel if the UFC took over a few floors. That's not too different from normal. I think most of them arrived ~10 days before the last NZ card. They often train in hotel conference rooms etc

The issue is all the support staff that the UFC flies around to every event. That 2 week isolation probably makes it impossible

That's without mentioning the NZ Govt

Still Dana might want to be first again.. the first major US sport with a normal crowd would be a big deal

Gilbert Burns out of the Usman fight. He got covid.

Apparently they are trying to get Masvidal to replace him. I suspect they are pushing shit uphill.. not much time left, Usman didn't travel to the island when the fight was cancelled & I think Masvidal will ask for silly money
