I read the books previously but then decided to give them via Audible a go. Just finished Dance of Dragons a few weeks ago. Best part of a year to get through them. You appreciate how much the TV show differed from the books. The show did plenty right but got plenty wrong as well. Dorne, The Greyjoys (Euron especially) were poorly done.
Have since started (and nearing the end) listening to Fire and Blood. The whole Targaryen history of Aegons Conquest onwards.
This being the basis of the next GOT show on HBO i believe. Some brutal shit went down, having just gone through the Dance of the Dragons chapters, which was basically a Targaryen civil war. 2 sides fighting for the succession of the throne.
I fear we will never get to see ASOIAF completed by George. By all accounts he hasnt even started book 7 yet. And here we are awaiting on book 6 which has had its completion date pushed out by years.
He needs to do a George Lucas before it’s too late.
Being fat and old doesn’t help his cause
He got caught up in the TV show. He played a large role in the first 4 or 5 seasons. Book 5 came out in the same year as season 1 of GOT.
Hopefully he has entrusted someone close to him his work so far so they can finish it if he doesnt. -
@MN5 We've started watching again from the First Episode. Just a couple of episodes on a Saturday night if there's nothing better to do. Up to season 4 I think. Fuck the first seasons are good. Plus there is so much I'd forgotten For these reasons I am enjoying it - but it's not something I absolutely have to watch

thats how I got through all the books, at the time I was travelling to Auckland once a week for work so smashed them out.
They had the same guy do the reading and character voices for all bar 1 book IIRC, and I thought he was fantastic, although think in the last book (it was the previous book he was replaced) some of his character voices changed slightly.
He also had a cameo in S1 I think it was.

Yep Roy Dotrice, he was the pyromancer in season 2 when they used Wild Fire to light up Blackwater Bay.
His voices did change with certain characters but it would have been a hell of a lot of work.
He’s since passed away too I believe -

@Virgil well traveling to and from Auckland at least once a week was between 6 and 8 hours of listening.
Many of his character voices were so good, you knew who it was supposed to be speaking
My listening is 1 hour a day plus the odd journey to pick up a tv etc ( dont worry won’t go into that here)
Will have to grab some more of his work as the next listening. Will finish Fire and Blood by the weeks end -
I'm clocking about 1000km a week in the new work wheels ( just in case @Bones is monitoring this thread ) so something like this would be definitely great to have a listen to on those long drives.
There's only so much rocking out on your own in the car you can do without needing a wind down every now and again.

I would be up for a new GOT series but wouldn't rewatch the previous, it was good the first time and I doubt it would be as thrilling the second time. Comedy series I can rewatch, like friends, the office etc
Kinda missing having a weekly installment of something too! -

I'll happily re watch films I like any number of times and will binge movie series as well. GOT just seems like too much of a reinvestment of my time ( although Fargo was great and I wanna do Breaking Bad again, Mando being Star Wars speaks for itself )

Jeeeeeeesus you've just reminded me, I still haven't got passed my first star wars watch, was meant to watch all of them during lockdown and the order shenanigans on here turned me right off.

I wanna do Breaking Bad again,
Yeah that'd be a good rewatch, I've forgotten most of that except how much of a bitch his wife and son were, they were annoying characters

Haha, other half doesn't want a bar of it cos it reminds her of watching it with her ex. I watched it with my ex first time too....."Let's make new memories, beautiful" I said in a vain attempt to get her keen to have another go at it.
FUck, I'm even more of an awkward douche in real life than I am on the fern.

The GOT books are hugely over rated. The first couple are fucking great. Then he killed off all his best characters and we got looooooong novels about people you barely care about

Could say exactly the same about a famous sci fi franchise I quite like. At least a lot of them lived a pretty long life.

@MN5 bless your awkward doucheness!
I'd listen to her though.. Watch something new together.I think you'd all agree there's not a huge amount to choose from that remotely matched the quality of shows about 5 or so years ago. COVID is only gonna make this worse in the short term.

Killing off main characters are what makes it so GOT though. Can’t take any of them for granted.
He does over complicate the stories though, way too many sub plots and extra characters. The Frog, Penny, Old Griff.
Rather creepy how young they all were too. -

Rather creepy how young they all were too.which was great at teh start when he still had other good ones. But eventually you end up with an entire book about Sir Barristan and why should i care?

@Virgil I'll let you correct this spelling error.
