the border was always a clusterfuck waiting to happen, I thnk they are pretty naive to think they can keep it out and test all those crossing it as well as isolate and quarantine.
Too many people either cant be tested as often as they need or be isolated/quarantined.

The narrative they push is certainly good for morale, and votes. Until it all hits the fan of course...

That and you can test as much as you want, but if there's a false negative on the last test, they get through.
yep - so you need to have the false negative, and be asymptomatic, and still be contagious. You can't catch those bastards.
Given the rate of positives in incoming folk, though, it's pretty unlikely.

It doesn't hurt votes. Delivery has never mattered where PM Ardern is concerned, the comms are all that matter.

There has been a nuanced move away from eradication by Cindy:
Akl can move to Lvl 2 even if we are seeing new cases
We can hold an election at Lvl 2 - or even if some areas are at Lvl 3
A nuanced moved that would've been handy a week ago.
-
@antipodean Oh no you don't
-
What I find interesting, is during our 'peak' in early April, we were knocking out 3,000-6,000 tests a day, with more tests in the past 4 days than we had done in total, through to 20 APril, again, at our 'peak'
Daily numbers still seem reasonable given the volume of testing.
Have any of the people who test positive in Managed Isolation been hospitalised yet?
-
@taniwharugby all those in hospital are from the cluster
-
@taniwharugby Nope you're right we went through all of Lvl 1 without a hospitalisation.

And all the while, some of us wait......

@canefan Certainly losing some cred.
I didn't see today, but watching yesterday I thought he looked bloody awful. Gaunt, haggard etc, like he'd aged a year in the last few weeks.
If he was a woman and a mother you would not be allowed to say that.

No, but he isn't, so he did, and nearly got away with it until you stepped in. Nice woke, sorry work.
Can't help but agree with both of you though. Poor bugger (shouldn't call him that either, I know Honey).
How much control does he have over the border? I honestly don't know.
Anyway we are back where we were. How long do we do this? How many times?

I guess its part of his job to make sure the border is as tight as possible, highlighting the areas of concern and so on, despite the fact that is nigh on impossible, bar shutting it completely, which I believe he wanted to do for S1 of The Lockdown didnt he?
Doesnt absolve him of any blame, but I think maybe he wasnt given the tools and powers to do the job required
