More than 40 years after I first heard it, and the second guitar solo in Comfortably Numb still makes me stop and listen every time I hear it. Whenever I think I've achieved something I remember that Dave Gilmour made that happen.

crazy that i was just driving and i just listened to it. I love a Gilmour solo

I can’t put my finger on what exactly makes him so great as a guitarist but he most definitely is.

Neither can I no matter how much I practise, it doesn't sound the same.

Damn right. Some guitarists are just inimitable like him, Jeff Beck, Richie Blackmore, Brian May etc.

that was oddly compelling given he didn't actually say or do anything

what a song though, best listened to flat on your back on your bed at 2am, fully clothed but off your head with the lights still on

Love Pink Floyd's music. One of the great bands of all time. Enormous legacy. Some really beautiful and amazing songs.

Off stage Dave Gilmour, Nick Mason and especially Roger Waters are total bellends. Rick Wright was okay.

@voodoo in some he and his brother do them and comment on many of them (end up down a rabbit hole watching them listen to RATM, Metallica, Linkin Park, Hendrix etc)

@Bones some of them are really good, others less so, sometimes I think they are looking to react rather than listening to the music (Killing in the name of) but overall I think they do a good job.

One of my flatmates in PNG loved PF but couldn't listen to them when we were there. Too many unexpected and strange sounds at times, and he always thought someone was trying to break in - again. I have never worked out why they were "unexpected" given that he was a huge fan.

It's a pity that David Gilmour never toured NZ like Roger Waters did. But his "Remember That Night" and "Live at Pompeii" concert DVDs/blu-rays are fantastic.

From the first concert at the Royal Albert Hall:

@sparky I don't think that I have ever seen them interviewed. Pretty reclusive bunch as I understand it.

What makes them bellends? A lot of famous people go that way, but just haven't seen that from them.

@Snowy The series "Brian Johnson: A Life on the Road" had an episode on Nick Mason. Essentially Mason was showing off his vast car collection, including a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO. That is the most valuable collectable car in the world.

I like Brian Johnson - he was good on Top Gear.

Doesn't really answer my question though - what makes Mason a bellend? Because he collects, and likes, cars? Because he can afford expensive ones? Did he just come across as a prick?
