Anyway, shoulders this morning. Always pretty decent. Finish every session with an ab workout which is 30sec each of about 10 different ab exercises. Stomach screams after that.

Bit frustrating at the moment though because am training with a mate who is overweight and looking to slim down considerably. He's a top bloke and I love him to bits but we're on week 9 now and he just phones it in and is looking for every shortcut under the sun. He had some results early on when his starting point was zero but it's getting a bit embarrassing now. Try to advise about diet and more cardio but he wants to do it his way and seems to think he can have regular blowouts now he's getting to the gym. When you're making the effort to get to the gym and putting in the time why waste it. He spends an inordinate amount of time on calf raises. Love calf raises but that ain't gonna burn fat dude!

@Rancid-Schnitzel sounds like TR Jnr...any excuse.

On leg day, cant do squats, got a sore back, on chest day, shoulder hurts so cant do bench.

We did deads last night and I've told him he needs to go lighter and get his technique right as his left leg doesnt stay stead on his deads, but no, he decides to try for a PB, I told him not to, then when he couldnt do the PB it was my fault for being negative...he also thinks supplements are his shortcut to being ripped.

He will also do calves any time he can too!! Probably because I have been blessed with a pair of prize calves, he wants them too 😂

How old is he now? My youngest wants to hit the weights but at 12 I think that's a bit too young.

My mate is allergic to cardio and without changing up his diet weight loss is impossible. He does legs twice a week. I suspect because he's sitting for most of those. It's a real shame. The hardest part is getting to the gym in the first place. Ultimately there's nothing easy about it, despite what those infomercials say!

@Rancid-Schnitzel TR Jnr is 15, up until now he has done more bodyweight stuff, but a few of his mates go to another gym, he wanted to join, so I did too.

He has alot of potential, but is a bit lazy, thought having his older brother up recently who is a solid unit who spends alot of time at the gym, would inspire him to go a bit harder, but is his inspiration is sporadic.

His best mate who goes to the gym and has been for a while, his dad is an Orthopaedic surgeon, so assume if he thought it was bad kids doing gym, he wouldnt let him do it.

15 is a good age I think. My eldest is 15 and until his....troubles was doing weights and swimming. It was amazing to see him develop. Got the Viking genes from his mother. Now he's a blob.

@Rancid-Schnitzel TR Jnr didnt play rugby for the first time this year, due to our club not having an U16 team and him not feelign he was big enough anyway, Covid meant his Tae Kwon Do year has been messed up, theoretically if he had passed the 2 gradings this year (if they had them) the final one would have been next month and he would have been going for his Jnr black belt...

but as they havent been able to have no gradings, unable to train again in L2, he has lost his motivation and isnt even wanting to do his brown belt grading in November...he is wanting to take a break completely, but I have told him I think it is important he gets the brown belt before stopping.

@taniwharugby get the brown before you put it down. Lyrical gangster lol.

I still remember my dad telling 18 year old me that he really regretted not playing sport after college or training to keep fit. I reckon you guys have all stuck a good balance between support via a gentle (or not lol) nudge rather than being dicks about it. I'm yet to try it out but I'm thinking we'll expect the kids to be doing something, but its up to them to decide what it is (as long as it's rugby of course). Then I guess it's on us to give them options 🙂 shit, this sounds like work!

It can happen in weird ways. I was desperate to get my youngest to play rugby. His enthusiasm was lukewarm at best and I just bit the bullet and gave up. But suddenly this year he's going nuts about rugby and wants to pass and kick the ball all the time. I think it helps that he's gotten very tall and discovered how to run fast again (he was like Bambi for a while there). So I guess, ultimately, unless you start them really young it's hard to pressure them into something. They have to find their own path and you just have to hope it isn't the fooking iPad.

I meant the Viking genes in the most positive, crazy jealous way. Kid only has to look at weights to get jacked. But even Vikings are no match for Coca Cola and Krispy Kreme.

Took me about 4 years to get Bonesetta to stop doing shortcuts all the time and copping out on technique/exercises/weights.

Now she generally trains better than me. Probably because I take shortcuts all the time and cop out on technique/exercises/weights.

    Welcome back fella!

At 12 and 10 I’m getting my boys to do push ups and negative chin ups. They both do much better when my other half is critiquing their form and they were shocked ( as was I ) when she busted out 25 good form push ups for the FB challenge ( but she didn’t put this online cos she didn’t want to upset her more out of shape friends, she’s such a girl )

Mine were perfect and my variations showed great power and poise.

You must have been bored to watch them though, I’m sure no one else did.

I watched them and was very disappointed when you stopped. The singing was the highlight.

How is she at pull-ups? My gf is a bit of a gym junky but can barely do 2.

I was sick of being ignored. I think only you and one other bloke did it out of about 15 nominations. Included in that bunch were a Ferner or two as well. The pathetic excuses were just that....sore wrist, bad shoulders, Heart murmurs.....

    That’s before I even got to @Bones
