Would have been a very different game if Waikato didn’t have a 10.
How is a careless head contact that removes someone from the game not red? Not even looked at either. Baffled.

Disappointing spectacle with both teams adopting a confrontational forward based approach. I do feel the ref should be more decisive in providing a better spectacle. Stop the clock when allowed. Whistle things earlier.

Yeah. The directive about head contact specifically talks about the tackler going in too upright to avoid those head clashes. Smith’s responsibility to execute without danger. He makes direct contact to the head and causes a head injury

@Crucial nah that was accidental. They both copped it.

That means nothing. Just because your carelessness injures you as well as someone else doesn’t mean that you weren’t careless.
As explained, the directive specifically takes upright tackling into account because of the risk.
I could accept if they looked at it and decided yellow but the refs seemed to think like you that Smith’s punishment was having a cut.
A card and possible PT (take the offending action away)

@Crucial he didn't hit him high. It was an upright tackle. He gave him a hug, not illegal. They clashed heads, it was accidental.

Upright tackles when you have clear line of sight are illegal. For the very reason we just saw. Care of duty is with the tackler.
If you make contact with the head with your own head in a tackle you go down the decision path. Clear sight is an aggravating factor

Are you saying that the tackle was made before the head contact?
It seemed to happen either first or at the same time to me. In fact the players only fell down from the head contact. No tackle happened

    It's been a while since I left FMG after a win. 🙂

I thought both Jacobson brothers had big games. Luke is getting back to his best with dominant tackles and strong runs.

    Pickerill terrible - again.

@Bovidae Yep, best game this year from Luke, and Mitch pretty consistent. Iosefa Scott and Cobb were good too.

The Waikato scrum was certainly dominant but Pickerill took forever to reward them. Iosefa-Scott seems to have found his mojo again after not playing for so long.

    Welcome back mate.

Yeah not a great game to watch for the neutral fan. CM forwards have some talent but haven’t really gelled.
