A bunch of ex cricketers beating a bunch of Rugby players at cricket.

    Quite a surprising result really.

Pretty happy that my re-entry into sports-betting was "the cricketers are going to beat the rugby players... in a bullshit game of cricket"

There’s obviously a bit of behind the scenes talk about making the game close and a bit of a spectacle.....because there’s no way in hell a team of Rugby players would get within spitting distance of the cricketers if they were trying their best.

Did you see Craig McMillian and the puku’s on some of these “cricketers”. They aren’t going to be steaming in anymore.

Bullshit. They were absolutely trying. You sound like my parents back when I thought sitting up all night watching WWE was a good idea at 12 years old. It’s real god damn it!!

I always enjoy this game, it’s good entertainment and the result doesn’t matter. Best served with a few coldies and a bag of salty potato chips.

McMillan never steamed in even at his best.

Many great cricketers are/were fat. Do you not remember the Jesse Ryder chat on here ?

Styris and Macca particularly looked like they'd been in good pasture. Scotty perhaps spending more time dining with Ian Smith than with his wife (who reads the sports news on TV3).

and the good crowds would indicate plenty of people enjoy it too!

Being FTA would help with viewing numbers too, but for viewing it hits the mark, although alot of the comms leave alot to be desired with The ACC...

Christ, they're an abomination, aren't they? At least Leigh Hart wasn't there, but still... they should realise that their unfunny schtick might go a bit further if it wasn't constant. Leave some silence. Stretch out your one fucking gag, rather than just repeating it ad nauseum. You've got 3 or 4 hours, for fuck's sake... just... shut up once in a while.
If they took that advice, I can see that they'd be a good match for this sort of game. But... they won't.

    @Kruse Spot on.

Also, do some Keith Quinn style research so that you can actually tell the audience something about the cricketing background of the rugby players. Lots of them have played some level of rep. cricket.

At least be familiar enough with them that you can recognise who it is that has just taken the catch and not have to refer to them as "The fieldsman!"

They actually improved a bit as the game reached its conclusion and they had a situation to comment on, but I barely watched any of the first innings because the commentary was unlistenable to.

The boundary ropes were a long way in on one of the sides, but it meant more runs and that the rugby team didn't hole out as easily, so I think it added to the game.

That aside, Dan the Man, 2M Peter and Parore were standouts for Team Cricket - Vettori went into the last over having conceded 6 runs off 3 overs and then defended 8 to win with 3 wickets and 5 runs conceded to finish with 3/11 off 4 overs in a T20. Parore's 3 catches and a stumping all standing up to the wicket were a real demonstration of class (he was legitimately a great keeper in his prime) and 2M Peter showed up some of his team mates with a fantastic innings.

Side note on the ACC - they are much better than when they started, but if you're going to refer to 2M Peter as 1.98M Peter (which is technically correct), it's 1.98 metres, not 1.98 centimetres...

@Godder It's Parore's 50th birthday today. Decent effort by him - several years older than Flem, who I think was next oldest.

But, a lot of the cricketers are mid-40s, which is a bit disturbing. Seems like only yesterday they were playing for the Black Caps. Nearly 6 years since Dan last played international cricket.

The ACC were pretty hit or miss as they usually are. The Parore Everest dig was good but the constant mention of the doubly wobbly over got a bit much. I also related to how they referred to a man in his 40s having a beard as having ‘mans makeup’

Styris is definitely punching, the fact his wife isn’t a female equivalent of him is extraordinary.

McMillan just looks really unhealthy, not good for anyone let alone a diabetic.
