While I'm glad that Zac seems to be turning his life around at last, he is VERY lucky to have received the leniency he has considering his rap sheet over the past decade or so. And I kind of hate the fact that 'possible future rugby employment' still holds so much sway in court.
The path of Joe Anybody with same rap sheet would have been very different. Sportspeople aren't entitled to their career. They should face consequences same as anyone else for violent offences, especially repeat ones.I think that the judge here agreed with you. Not saying that they all will just that you are at risk of joining the GOM thread by shouting at the wrong cloud.

@crucial I think his rap sheet is actually pretty clean, he has a conviction for drink driving....other than that he has no other convictions. The Rarotonga incident was an employment incident.... I would expect Joe Public with the same background to be treated similarly...the fact he has been a shit employee over a long time doesn't come into it.

@Mokey would need a GOW thread wouldn't she? I have just assumed gender, oh shit.
Maybe we need all of the letters. GOL, GOG, GOB, GOT, GOQ, GOI, GOA. Threads for everyone pissed off at the world. Probably missed one and pissed someone off right there.Interesting thing about the violence against women thing above - my wife attributes bad behaviour by women to the fact that they don't get smacked in the face if they act up. I'm talking public situations, not domestic violence. In a pub type thing, where some bloke has a go at another bloke he is likely to get a broken nose, whereas a woman gets away with it, and learns that she can.
My minor gender psychology comment for the day. -
@rancid-schnitzel I understand why you're pissed off about the Wheeler situation but that's a ridiculous comparison and dramatic to suggest he's been "cast out of society."

Seen Joe Wheeler on TV recently?
The fact remains that for some inexplicable reason, second, third etc chances are given for violent crimes yet you’re beyond redemption if you write or say something that might offend someone. I’d rather have someone grievously insult me in a car park than headbutt me. I’d also be much more likely to give a second chance to someone who insults one of kids rather than someone who tries to sell them drugs.

There's another thread for this but hardly an apples for apples comparison. Got examples of those 3rd chances for violence?

So when an offensive phrase results in the victim being rushed to the ER? Or an offensive tweet causes a kid to OD? A car park insult resulting in someone going to the morgue?

The last example there didn't have the second chance you are talking about. The crime in that example spent time in prison, has a record, is monitored in the community and any minor step off the path will see him back inside. I have no idea how that compares with losing a part time job where peers have come out in support of your character and after a period out of the headlines may have an option to return.
You are simply making mountains out of molehills. -

Did I miss the bit when Wheeler was locked in a 3x2 cell, anally probed and made to take high intensity rehabilitation?
