Not sure I'm gonna hit my 90kg weight target by my run next Saturday, but I'll go close.

Problem is as I've upped my time running (treadmill and trail) my body has been craving more fuel, in particular milk...every day craving pints of cold milk at present.

Have done 42km in the past 8 days (considerable increase from about 6-7km a week 3 or 4 weeks back) will go for a harder hill/trail climb on Saturday and probably 3 6km+ treadmill runs during the week leaving Thursday and Friday off for my run on Saturday.

My biggest issue will be come run day, ensuring I am empty prior to the run, so might take a mild lax on Friday morning...

Excellent posts lately, keep up the hill work. Although I disagree about the climbing, since i have extensive experience doing hill workouts. It's possible to bust your gut from bottom to top of a mountain, then just keep going at full pace. Taking it slow up a hill is pointless, and loses a lot of time. Just do regular 3-4 hour hill workouts, and get fitter.

However, one note-do 1 step at a time, or you will put too much stress on your knees, like me, and I got a spur. Good news, I climbed 5 flights of steps in a building today at full pace with no feeling in my knee. It's never going to be perfect, but after many months it's getting better.

Weather forecast had been shite, but is looking much better, gonna be 21/22...kinda looking forward to it :)

quite possibly the toughest thing I have ever done!

After a farily sedate first couple of km's down to sea level, the stair climb began, and went on, and on, and on...upto about 370m, then we got to go down hill for a bit, then up some more to 420m, down a bit then up some more, felt like I was going uphill more often than heading down...hate bloody steps!

Glad it wasnt raining, I slipped on the trail a few times as it was, on in the last 6km almost rolled my ankle, hurt for about 10mins but pain (weakness escaped) went away.

Top guy finished about 2hours 30mins, I snuck in just over 4 hours, gutted I didnt get in under 4 but I started getting cramp in my calves and quads in the last few kms so was a very slow last couple of kms on the road, but I could tell with 3 or 4 to go I wasnt gonna make it in under 4 without picking up the pace considerably.

I actually didnt eat anything during the run never actually felt like it, got through decent amount of fluids though!

Am also pretty glad I hadnt run that trail before....hitting it unknown was best, cos otherwise I'd of known how I was no where near ready!

calves are bloody tight!

Got up to go for a leak in the night and could barely walk, but once I get moving about it is ok...no blisters, chaffing or anything, hip flexors a little tight too, but mainly just the calves, other wise all good.

It was a lot about the mental side, were 2 bail out points along the way, but I felt that if I did, I'd sit there for days thinking 'you pussy, was only another hour or so!' As it is I am thinking if I had pushed just a little harder the final 5km I'd of got in under 4 hours easily!

On the trails, I was good on the undulating trails, on the slight declines and even the incline paths, but the incline steps just killed me! On one section I couldn't see anyone within 200m of me behind me, I hit some stairs and within minutes I had 2 or 3 people right on me, then get to a flat patch and I'd be waiting on them....

Top guy actually did it in 2hrs 10, he is the Ranger out there!

Calves still pretty tight, tried to get stuck into them with a tennis ball and foam roller last night, I was being gentle but the eyes were still watering!

still doing stuff regularly, but decided yesterday (day I take the brats swimming each week) that I was gonna swim 20 lengths (25m)

Got to 12 lengths with about a 30sec rest after each 2 and was farked, so went and sat in the spa!

New goal, 20 lengths without stopping! Last time I swam that far was when I was a life guard as a teenager, so be good to get back to a decent swim fit.

I think Josh Kronfeld said that even at his fittest when training with the ABs ( and as an openside the Vo2 max woulda been more than handy I bet ) he always struggled surfing when he hadn't been for awhile. Funny how there are different kinds of fitness......

yea a lot needs to be specific to what you are doing...I mean you hit the roads all summer, get stuck into a few rucks and mauls in pre-season and your farked, rugby fit is different to run fit

Yep, I argue that point with the other half all the time, she reckons gymnasts are the ultimate all round athletes, I argued Rugby players were more so with maybe boxers being the "ultimatist" of all.

yeah, you've got the running, the wrestle and contact to deal with - plus having to make decisions (unless you are a front rower - head down and charge!). But in saying all of that gymnasts are pretty amazing and have the pressure of performing solo. At least you can (try) and hide in a ruck!

yeah different sports require different types of fitness...

I remember was it the old clash of codes?

The soccer guys did well in the endurance activities but not so well in others, whereas the rugby guys seemed to go ok in most things, but rarely at the top or bottom - although most were very much amateur athletes back then IIRC

Having a good base level of fitness is a good starting point for most sports.

Sheesh, look at the cobwebs, this place, like me, needs an over haul!

Sun is shining, summer is upon us and I am a fat cnut...

well not quite that simple, but I have piled on about 5kg in the past 6 months, in part due to a nasty little anti-biotic resistant infection I had that meant I couldnt really do much for about 3 months, hopefully the new range of anti-biotic has done the trick.

Anywhoo, goal is simple, get back under 95kg (was 99.2kg on Saturday night, just about fell off the scales - at this weight tough to re-correct yourself once you start moving)

Started doing a bit of running again the past couple of weeks and still feel pretty decent there, but sore the following day, well sorer than I should be.

MIx running with some punch bag and calisthenics, will hopefully see me move some of the weight, particularly around my belly, which is where all 5kg seems to have gone.
