I do remember when $5 would get you an absolute feast at Georgie Pie, 3 pies, chips and a milkshake. Of course there were numerous stories about various dodgy things being found in the pies ( ranging from staples to condoms ) but at that price you took your chances I guess.
My $5 was mince and cheese pie, apple pie, chips, sundae, and coke. You could also get a KFC 1/4 pack for the same price.
Possibly off topic but pies to me aren’t nice if they’re made with fruit. I reckon they always have to be savoury. Also pretty much “steak and” or “mince and”……none of that crossover butter chicken pie shit.

I'm mostly with you there. But there was something special about the apple and later the apricot pies from maccas

I love apple pies. The Georgie Pie ones were awesome. I'm not a pie purist, if they have something in them and they taste nice to me I'll happily eat them.
I probably have't had a pie in over two years now - since I was last in NZ.

My go to these days if I’m travelling for work ( and again only every now and again ) is 2 x Pepper Steak pies from BP Connect. Absolutely delicious and a very filling feed at only about $10 all up. The only issue can be having to pull over in shitty weather and eat them cos I hate the pastry dropping everywhere in the car.
The rest of BPs food is ghastly, stodgy shit so they really stand out like a beacon amongst all the greasy sausage rolls etc.
I love a good pie and love butter chicken but mixing them together ? Fuck no, it’s two cultures clashing and not getting on.

Yep, I have a famous Sydney pie shop on the corner. I've bought bacon and egg rolls from them.

I quite liked that butter chicken pie in NZ, and the hangi pies that I only ever found in Putaruru.

Again, I’m probably a bit weird cos I’d happily eat Bacon and Eggs as my only meal for the rest of my life but Bacon and Egg Pie just doesn’t really do it for me.

@mn5 I think those were urban legends, heard plenty about KFC that I knew were BS.
Absolutely they were BS I reckon. They have such stringent protocols.
My father worked for the meat company that supplied Georgie Pie. They bought high quality product. Hygiene standards were really high from start to finish, nobody wanted their name sullied. My sister also worked there for a while, it was all maintained through the process. I'd eat another one tomorrow.

Yes. Not to being weird even if that might be true, but you need runny yolk with the bacon.

Different strokes I guess. I love B&E pies and make a mean one with bacon, eggs, and a sprinkling of onion, peas and seedless tomato for interest. But my favourite pies would be steak and mushroom and steak and kidney.
Sort of back on topic, I used to be quite the fan of cobblestone potato top pies as well. Well, basically all mince and steak pies I guess...

Adding anything but bacon and egg to a B&E pie just ruins it for me.I don’t want a bacon, egg, tomato and onion pie. 🤣

What is scary is I haven't watched this for over 30 years, and I can still name nearly all of them.
Hogan, Elizabeth, Macho Man, Rick Rude ( always my favourite ), Jake the Snake, Andre, Powers of Pain ( Warlord and Barbarian ), Ultimate Warrior, Bushwackers ( Butch and Luke, an absolute disgrace to NZ ) Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Brutus the Barber Beefcake and Ted Dibiase.
Elizabeth, Macho Man, Rude, Andre and the Warrior are no longer with us.

Your missus would. That’s the immortal Ravishing Rick Rude.
Great heel, ( seriously the heels were always more interesting ) and legitimate tough fluffybunny.

He feuded with Jake Roberts and the Ultimate Warrior. Hogan wouldn’t wrestle him apparently cos he was a bit unhinged supposedly. Died at 41.
Always one of my favourites back in the day but then lots of them were fucken cool.

Lol, but you do realise it is as choreographed as ballet, and involves a similar amount of toughness?
