@godder but with more nurses workloads would ease...irony is nurses are probably working more than ever now.
Obviously, but that was one of the points of the last settlement - more staff were needed to address workloads, and that hasn't materialised. We are competing with Australia and yet the DHBs just can't get their heads around it.

The fact is that she herself did nothing wrong.
The rest is just political ....Weren’t wearing masks, travelled further than 5km from her house and her friend went for a swim.
She had also told people who lived at home not to have bubble friends with this latest lockdown, zoom instead.
Complete hypocrite, and it hurts people who haven’t been able to see family or go to funerals because of rules this person is advising, but doesn’t follow herself.

I was trying to be as generous as possible with the facts from the footage, but if she's been telling people that then does this, it makes me think the whole story about her friend being part of her bubble and that she biked there is likely bullshit.

And what a complicit media we have.
And instead the news coverage is all about how she technically did nothing wrong, how this is an example of the disinformation she talks about, and how Judith Collins is a terrible person for calling her a "big, fat, hypocrite". And now they're talking about how she's getting donations to support her research because of it. All while of course not showing the actual video footage.
Even if she didn't technically break the lockdown rules, she's pushing them right to the limits, which isn't a good look for someone who has basically made a name for themselves by telling everyone to follow them.
The media are giving her a pass which I don't believe she should receive, and Collins did not help things calling her fat, just an amateur move. As you say the fact remains, a person in her position should be beyond reproach, and she should be called up on her actions and her attempts to show no contrition

Man, so much hate in this thread. Clearly lockdown is getting to some people. Or too much alcohol.
I'm out.
Kia ora all and gfys.
I'm sure you're out @stargazer, most people who are fully onboard with the cult of Ardern think the opposition is out of line questioning policy let alone anyone one social media. Its not exactly a healthy state of affairs and you'd have to go back Robs mob in the Muldoon era to find anything similar here.
I see you think Wiles is beyond reproach , fuck knows why. She's been utterly desperate to be famous and before covid came along she had a couple of attempts at trying to get some sort of fame, including a bizarre Ted talk about the vital issue of gender bias in lego minifigures
She's seized onto covid like a stray tim tam on the floor and she's used it to build a brand and is actually monetised it from fools donating to her. Of course she hasn't actually stuck to covid she's spouted left wing talking points and supported every government decision while deriding any scientist who disagrees with the governments covid approach and has been well rewarded for it . A quick look at her twitter reveals dozens of people thanking her and posting messages of support, due in no small part to her blocking the many thousands of people who criticise her.
My old mad died four weeks ago and we had to wait till level 2 to have a funeral more than 10 people can attend , we had the funeral yesterday and we all wore masks as per rules she helped put in place Rules she doesn't think apply to her apparently, she makes the rules and she's supposed to set an example instead she laughs it off and takes to social media to talk about how a morbidly obese person exercises.
Except she wouldn't have been surprised because she rang Bloomfield to tell him that was another of her lies .
Dr Bloomfield said he received an explanation from Dr Wiles. "I've had a message from Siouxsie who described what happened. From what she told me, it didn't sound like protocols were breached, and I don't think that the person who went into the water what they did could be described as a swim," he said.
So we wait four weeks to say goodbye to my old man , we obeyed the level 2 rules when mum was in the hospice but she can go 5km from her home and loll around on the beach while her friend goes swimming? Oh get fucked.
I know people seem to think Ardern and co have covered covid well because we didn't get slammed like some countries overseas. That was down to luck more than management , don't believe me? She rode her luck far too long putting off mass gatherings and border controls for as long as possible so she could garner some overseas coverage from march 15 commemorations and then had to go into the worlds toughest lockdown or has she put it hard and early .
.My old man had his first stroke the month before lockdown and was in the stroke ward in hospital , the hospital gradually ramped up their restrictions until one day I was locked out and forbidden to enter. So we went into lockdown and we were dreading any phone call in case it was someone ringing to tell us he'd died alone in hospital and we never got to say goodbye. We did our best to accept that everyone was making sacrifices and this was ours, you can imagine how furious we were when Simon Bridges had to get an online petition together to actually set up a quarantine because before that you could get off a plane from pretty much anywhere and head to the nearest supermarket queue and then to your unmonitored self quarantine.
The government has spent 18 months sniffing their own farts and hasn't increased icu capacity and we have doctors and nurses leaving because the incompetents that run immigration can't be bothered processing their applications. If we get an outbreak like Sydney expect carnage .
We've been riding our luck throughout all of this , anyone who expects the architects of kiwibuild or the vaccine rollout to be competent is delusional and theres only so many KFC workers you can throw under the bus. Speaking of kiwibuild expect small building companies to fall over due to materials shortages and delays of at least six months on some supplies and larger companies hoarding materials. Also people who have used kiwisaver as a deposit on a new home are now finding out the huge materials price increases mean that they aren't eligible for a mortgage anymore and will have to cancel their builds.
On to the media ,the team of $55 million [and counting] it'd be nice if they actually applied the same amount of scrutiny to the government as they do to National or act . Its down to a combination of our left leaning media class being in thrall of Ardern and her and her and her handlers constant threats to cut off access if they ask hard questions . Michael Morrah deserves praise for being one of the only ones to be actually asking hard questions.
One final thought @stargazer people like you and the others who have mainlined the Ardern Koolaid seemed to have learned nothing from the past five years. its very obvious when people are belittled and ignored by the smug media and political classes and when they are told what they can see with their own eyes isn't happening you end up with Trump and Brexit .
At the moment labour and national are pepsi and coke policy wise, don't expect this to last as Ardern keeps pushing further and further into endless lockdowns due to their incompetence at the border ,propping up a compliant media, He Pua Pua and three waters etc. Whichever one of National and Act promise to roll back the most of Arderns bullshit has my vote and if you ask around I reckon you'd find I'm very much I'm alone in thinking that.End rant and once again gfys

@Anonymous yep, and in this case it's a really clear breach if the rules.
I'm with @Stargazer on this; what Wiles did wasn't a technical rule breach (or can be argued). The actions really breach the spirit of the rules, though, and is an astonishingly poor look for someone who lectures the country on following rules . The advert from the Herald yesterday is below - it's pretty clear about the intent (stay home), more than the technicality.
What surprises me more than anything is the lack of apology or remorse. People can see it's a bad look, and sails very very close to the wind ... but the 'nothing to see here move along' will get more backs up than 'I had bad judgement, and bent the rules, and should have done more'. It's more sensitive when people (David Clarke, looking at you) have form in this area. It's very very easy to look like you think you're above the rules; rules for thee, but not for me.
So, yes, it's hypocritical, and yes it's a bad look, but it's not technically a 'breach'. Her friend, on the other hand, should really know better

It’s what gets me about this situation, peoples empathy seems to have gone missing.
Someone on Twitter (seemed to be friendly with Red Beard) proclaimed they were happy for the borders to stay closed for years because, and I quote, "I did all my travelling in my 20s" so they didn't see the need to travel again.
Small-minded, self-absorbed fuckwit.

@nzzp She was laughing about, all adds to the ill feeling about it all.
in scandals, it's the coverup that gets you. Here, it's the lack of remorse I suspect. But it's another point where a few people will look at what happened, and how it gets reported, and scratch their heads. Feeds the narrative of a compliant, acquiescent media, whether that's real or not.
Separately, there's some high quality prepping going on; news articles suddnely in the last couple of days about un-linked cases, and now 'experts' holding forth on another week for Auckland at L4. I'll be astonished if the result this afternoon is anything but L4 for another week (and happy to be proved wrong on the bright side)

Another data point about how poor a politician Judith Collins is too. She had a slam dunk here and decided to add "fat" to her insult, instantly changed the story.

I wouldn't call it a slam dunk -- but yes, just stupid again. She has a phenomenal back story, but can't seem to get any traction with anyone but a few die hard Team Blue supporters. The Nats are having a major identity crisis, and she is not helping. God help us if they go back to Bridges - to go full circle in a year, at the cost of losing all the experience and the liberal wing of the caucus would be astonishing.
