It is quite amazing how much veges have changed over the last few hundred years. Animals have obviously got much bigger, often triple the size+
But veges, like carrots and stuff, changing colours, shapes etc. Go back to market in the middle ages and you wouldn't recognise the veges even though we still eat versions of them today

I like Toka Toka (gold variety). Less sweet.
My knowledge of kumara
Modern kumara are nothing like those traditionally cultivated by Maori but are South American varietals
Maori trained gulls to keep caterpillar off the plants
They are not a sweet potato as they're not a potatoCourtesy of a sign at the Oka Toka pub in Ruawai

I like the sound of that, always wished I like Kumara but the sweetness just makes me urgh.
This times a heaps.
Especially when I was based abroad, I'd come home - and really WANT to like kumara... but then have some, and think "yeah... nah" - just too bloody sweet. -

@dogmeat Ruawai: kumara capital of the world.
Did you check out that nipple on the Tokatoka peak?
Ruawai? Sure it's not Dargaville?
I’m sure. I went out with a girl from there when I was a young fella and ended up there most weekends digging the little bastards. The things you’ll do for a root eh?

@majorrage it's funny because kumara are root vegetables
I needed to make sure everybody got it.
There are some seriously thick people on here you see. For reference on that fact, pick a thread, any thread, and read it.
(I hadn’t actually seen your gif before I replied ….)

The sun is shining, it's a glorious day here in the big 09. People sunbathing, went for a decent bike ride, had a row, ate a magnificent lunch and cleaned the oven (partner's least favourite chore).
So, things are pretty good. All Blacks on tonight, no work today/tomorrow, and some good weather to enjoy. Got 20L of Pilsner into the fermenter last night.
This lockdown's been tough, but every day is a day closer to the future. Look after yourself Ferners, it's OK to be affected by this relentless situation

Resurrecting this thread, as lockdown is really hammering us at the moment.
Rugby on TV is fantastic. Really enjoyed the Northland game on Friday (sorry Waikato Fans).
NZZP Jr is mastering sourdough, and doing a great job, so is pounding out good sourdough on a regular basis. Stereotyped, but absolutely mint (and a good life skill).
Other than that, feels very much like:
The rain is doing good things for our dams in Auckland as well, which is awesome. Maybe water restrictions come off soon.
