Unexplainable drop in cases here in Japan over the last month or so. The city I live in hasn't had a case for a while and Tokyo had 26 people yesterday. I heard something like a 98% drop in cases. The surge during the Olympics was with the unvaccinated age groups who all have been pretty much covered now. Vaccinations plus masks, social distancing, etc seem to be working.

I don't know anyone who gives a toss about Covid around here, we still have socially distancing measures but apart from that, life is pretty much normal. Sadly, I'll have to start teaching face to face again, which means more time on the train (which I hate, not because of Covid).

Never voted Democrat. Have voted centre-right. And Trump has given them far more money than I ever would. Generous guy.

You’re probably right!
Trouble is I can't stand his taste in architecture. And still have not made it quite to Aberdeen.

Vanity Fair, of all places.
In Major Shift, NIH Admits Funding Risky Virus Research in Wuhan
A spokesman for Dr. Fauci says he has been “entirely truthful,” but a new letter belatedly acknowledging the National Institutes of Health’s support for virus-enhancing research adds more heat to the ongoing debate over whether a lab leak could have sparked the pandemic.
“I totally resent the lie you are now propagating.”
Dr. Anthony Fauci appeared to be channeling the frustration of millions of Americans when he spoke those words during an invective-laden, made-for-Twitter Senate hearing on July 20. You didn’t have to be a Democrat to be fed up with all the xenophobic finger-pointing and outright disinformation, coming mainly from the right, up to and including the claim that COVID-19 was a bioweapon cooked up in a lab.
The immediate target of Dr. Fauci’s wrath was Senator Rand Paul, who was pressing the nation’s top doctor to say whether the National Institutes of Health had ever funded risky coronavirus research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Based on new information disclosed by the National Institutes of Health, however, Paul might have been onto something. […]

@nostrildamus well you can’t be good at everything. Too much gold in the architecture?

Or, crazier still, hope they get so scared of getting sick they shut down their economies and lock down their civilians. It'll never work!

Yet the bio weapon won't be lethal enough to kill that many of their citizens, so they can still buy the stuff we manufacture..... genius

If it was such a thing it would really be an economic weapon. Hasn’t done too bad on that metric.
Off to get my tin foil hat now…
