just starting this off, would be typical for us to win this match when there is no promotion...would still love to see it

The ODT looks back on Otago's previous finals

    Nov 16, 2021

Victories in NPC finals rare for Otago

Victories in NPC finals rare for Otago

This will be the 10th time Otago has appeared in an NPC final. Its record is ... well, what does the past really mean? Sports editor Hayden Meikle...

@kiwiwomble well Otago look like they are building nicely whereas 'naki look to have dropped off thier earlier form.

That Otago team from the 90s absolutely typifies the "golden period" of NZ Domestic rugby for me. Talent everywhere, heaving 'brook, Shield heartbreak, awesome rugby to watch.

@mariner4life yeah, lots of teams and sports talk about a "golden generation" but there are few better examples of a true one

Even those finals in the 2000's i feel we were starting to punch above our weight...but there was some great rigby played in the 90's

I have to say i start to feel a similar vibe to when the black caps play the aussies...more often than not it seems to be a bridge too far

@taniwharugby Taranaki won't be lacking motivation to have an unbeaten season. I'm not saying that Otago can't win, as they did take the RS the last time they played there.

@bovidae especially after that article that said they were dirty about no promotion, like they would walk it 😉

Great try by the Naki. Faddes was a bit lost in that phase

Otago missed ten tackles in the first 15mins

They should be happy it’s one try each

    Good pace J Ioane

Feels like Taranaki should have a bigger lead

    Naki 17-12

Those HT highlights show just how bad Faddes has been on defense.

Probably just hoping it went dead but more likely almost his entire life with one set and a more recent change to a new rule

Naki very much earn their lead, we’re definitely guilty of not converting when dominant on attack
