Not a good result for Sydney, but the old kick-after-the-siren-to-win-it is the fairytale, and still puts a smile on my face.

Anyway, I'm a fucking GWS supporter right up until they fuck it ;)

The Lions are the worst team in the comp. Just awful. I agree with whoever said Queensland can't support 2 teams

Its interesting comparing GWS to GCS ,

Both clubs were handed everything to them with draft picks , GWS seemed to do a lot better with theirs though , im not sure if it was luck , better kids available at the time, or management ,

The other major beneficiary out of all that that gets overlooked were Hawthorn , while all the best kids in the land went to 2 clubs and not being spread around as usual , it stalled other clubs catching up to them

Do you reckon the Suns can sustain a foothold on the GC? Sure there are a lot of Vics moved there but are they going to trade their allegiances from their own clubs?

Thinking "aloud" as I type I suppose it does mean that the Vics that are there will go to see the visiting team and slowly come to support the Suns as their second team.

The Afl will help them the best they can , believing once on field success comes, the rest should fall into place

They have some good kids already , keep finishing low, you get more , eventually the list should be so strong where the right coach can take hold and make a move ,

The AFl are prepared for it to be a long term plan if it has to be , they said that at the beginning , and it looks like it will be

As far as supporters go, that can take time , like you said AFL supporters are a loyal bunch , they dont change teams , supporters for life most of them

Well regardless, happy that the Crows were playing them today. Puts us back in the winners' circle 🙂

Crows wrap up the round smashing St Kilda.

Bumps us to at least 7. Maybe 6 if that was enough of a percentage boost.

So I lied. We stay in 8th. Misread WCE's %.

GWS WCE and Crows all on 28. On 133.3% 133% and now 127.1% respectively.

Precisely. Ignoring the stadium location, it appears those living on the Gold Coast simply aren't interested in investing in a new club and visibly supporting them

In other news the Tigers were spanked in Tasmania. Various pundits were suggesting the Tigers could win it, fuck knows what they were smoking. I saw the loss coming a mile away, just not the magnitude. Also we lost one of our defenders with a bit of heart for the season. Not good.

Giants did the Swans - and hard - at a sold out Spotless Stadium (mid-21k) tonight. The record crowd was probably more blown away by this bloke:

http://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/this-giants-fan-was-always-going-to-leave-happy-regardless-of-the-result/news-story/458c95d0ac3e04221124cb08307b8516

A DAY out at the footy isn’t cheap. You’ve got tickets, transport, food and beers to pay for, and if your team loses, even more beers to drink away the pain.

But none of that matters when you walk away from the ground with $100,000 more in your bank account than you had when you walked in.

That was the story for one GWS Giants fan who stunned everyone with an incredible drop punt at three quarter time that earnt him the huge sum of money. Four tyres were stacked on top of one another and Paul Waterhouse had to kick a Sherrin from about 30 metres out and land it in the tiny opening.

Forget about kicking a goal to win a grand final, this was pressure.

But he obviously wasn’t fazed, and aced the challenge, prompting the capacity crowd of more than 21,000 to go absolutely nuts. As AFL.com.au reporter Adam Curley tweeted: “drinks on that bloke”.

Waterhouse, who traded in his Swans membership for a season ticket at GWS, also went nuts, channelling the Hayne Plane in his celebration before hugging his wife and daughter.

The lucky — and now, rich — fan can thank Giants sponsor Toyo Tires for the injection of funds courtesy of the kick for cash initiative.

Waterhouse’s mood would only have improved when his side went on to beat the Swans 105-63 in a convincing display that will only enhance the newcomers’ reputation as genuine title contenders this year.

...

Did you see the Giants' coach's press conference? 3 qtr time, game on the line, he's trying to talk about contested footy, and Stevie J is in the back of the pack giggling because the kick went in, and the message pretty much got lost.
