@crucial but is it anywhere in canon that Jango owned it? how did pre vizla get it ? are we saying the Vizla's had it, jango won it in battle at some point, then left it in his room or something and pre vizla just went and stole it back after he died?
wookipedia explains this is the canon
"In the days of the Old Republic, the Darksaber was created by Tarre Vizsla, the first Mandalorian ever inducted into the Jedi Order. After his passing it was kept at the Jedi Temple.[2] However, during the Old Republic's fall, it was taken by Mandalorians of House Vizsla, who raided the Jedi Temple.[3] Descendants of House Vizsla used it to kill many Jedi[2] and rule all of Mandalore for many years.[3]"
"By the time of the Clone Wars, the Darksaber had come into the possession of Pre Vizsla, Governor of Concordia and leader of Death Watch. Vizsla kept it on his back when he wore his armor.[2]"

Yes and the theory is that the show runners are going to 'legends' material that expands on this further where Jango beats Vizsla but doesn't claim the saber.
Therefore the saber believes Fett is its true owner. Since that defeat it hasn't been a good thing to have by any of the holders (although Gideon seemed to use it OK even if he was beaten) -
@crucial oh, won it and didn;t take it, i guess that makes some sense....i hope not though, seems unnecessary to A) make the dark saber history even more complicated and effectively negate alot of history that Filoni had created and B ) boba doesn't need it, both he and Mando are a bit OP as Bounty hunters let alone of they have a light saber
edit: Thinking about it more, everyone in universe thinks mando is the true holder, even Bo Katan who thinks its hers and was on a crusade to reclaim it obviously conceded mando was the holder, we going to get a scene where boba shows his receipt? he's never mentioned it before so will be really jarring if Mado rocks up and Boba sees it and is like "that was my fathers!"...anyone thats only watched the movies will be like "i remember jango and he didn;t have a lightsaber....might not have dhad his head chopped off if he did", off my call so can watch that video now
edit 2: ok, i get it, explains why we got a mando episode...because it was actually a dark saber episode...i get it but i dont like something that complicated unless we're going to get a flashback to Jango? via Boba telling a story of how he won it? if its just the talking explaining the history i'll be disappointed and as i say, id rather Bo had it because at least she wants to rule and has shown any interest in Mandalore

Yeah the armour and gadgets certainly give them an advantage over most.
I always loved this fight, really gave us a taste of what they could do although has to be said Jango was rapidly running out of tricks while one on one with one of the most powerful Jedi ever.

@kiwiwomble yeah, it’s just a theory but I think it fits and would make sense of the point of BoBF that we haven’t been able to see.
Boba rises as a leader with the help of the darksaber which sets up future stories involving Bo Katan etc.
This universe created around Mando does need to tie together. Boba can’t be a bounty hunter as Mando has done that. If he’s a crime boss only what other stories do we get? A crime boss/leader with a claim to establishing a new Mandalore and all the moving parts around that? Sounds ok. -
@crucial i guess i'd thought we'd get Mando and Bo competing for the sabre and to restore mandalore as they have both shown an interest in their own ways, Mando with his little group of mandalorians being very important to him, him hunting for more mandalorians is how he found the marshall and subsequently boba and Bo obviously having tried to rule previously and being on a quest to reclaim the dark sabre so she can try again
and BoBF as maybe one season just showing how he secured his position as a crime boss, which is more in line with the boba we know from clone wars, wanting to be the big bad guy, as i say, dont think i ever remember him even talking about Mandalore before
i feel that kind of works with them giving Mando that name..."The Mandalorian", so we wont see him bounty hunts any more, he'll be off on a proper quest leaving the antihero mandalorian seat open for Boba again
I guess we'll see, it will be clear by the end of this season im sure

Ok, I don't want to kick off any more shitfights, but I was actually pretty disappointed with this episode.
I'm actually interested in seeing the Boba story play out and this was an ok version of Mando. I didn't mind the spaceship building scenes, but the long exposition between the Mandolorians and the discussion about how they were the only three Mandolorians which culminated in two of them attempting to kill each other I found hard watching.
I look forward to Mando being part of the Boba story next week, but this was just a Mando story that I personally didn't need as I don't mind the Boba show and we're in the middle of the Boba season.
It was really ep1 of S3 of the Mandalorian and probably required viewing if and when S3 comes out. Smart I guess from Disney in pretty much forcing that crossover.
One thing I found very meh was that he will be visiting his little mate with a Mando present. That goodbye scene was great and was a fitting end to that storyline. It was emotional because it appeared to be the final goodbye. But I guess Grogu + Mando = $.

I guess that delivering the present gives him another quest. He has no idea where Grogu and Luke are. Following down leads could mean a number of interactions with characters we know.

you might be right, maybe he will lose the darksaber and go on a quest to find Grogu leaving Boba and Bo to battle it out for mandalore
we think the present is a little beskar chainmail ?

Yeah, the no droid discussion for the ship I think clearly points to Baby Yoda sitting in the pod.

Cad fucken Bane ! I love how they stole every western showdown cliche in the book but it still worked.
A bit too much Grogu training and Jedi bullshit for me, but I’m picking he’ll go with Mando which will start Luke’s decline into exile and drinking alien milk
