Looks like Shatner got really emotional, quite cool to see. Can I just mention how great he looks for 90?

Starship update in about an hour, might be interesting. They stacked it using mechazilla and the chopsticks last night.

NASA brought its concern with SpaceX's megaconstellation to the Federal Communications Commission.

@machpants if you go into detail about that collision system, an overhaul is long overdue. It's basically two groups playing chicken over the phone. "No you move".

The increase number of satellites have brought the issue to a head.

I had to laugh at another report saying these satellites would cause NASA to miss an asteroid heading towards earth. Perhaps if they spent more than $5 a year on in it wouldn't be an issue. For example, these are all low orbit satellites. Put a ring higher and no issue.

The benefit of a global communication network far outweighs logistical issues about implementation - particularly for the third world countries that don't have to roll out costly internet infrastructure.

Short version is they are still waiting on the environmental impact from the FAA, which he hopes may come in March. Once they have the booster and ship will be ready to try their first orbital launch.

Looks like they have approval in Cape Kennedy for launches right now, and are starting to build the launch pad out there to avoid these issues in the future - at least 8 months away.

I suspect some of this is to put pressure on them to hurry the fuck up. Lots of local community support as they see their small town have a huge influx of jobs.

It is like an idea that some old farmer came up with in his shed, after all the engineers put it in the "too hard" basket.

I really enjoyed the SpaceX documentary on Netflix. Started it just flicking around and watched the whole thing.
