I’m waiting for a couple of our outside backs to fall over due to Covid not a lot out there I’d imagine Is there any outside backs at the Magpies that aren’t in the Hawkes Bay Pasifika squad? Or even Manuwatu Wild maybe?

@mikey07 What do you mean? Years of history indicates there is more chance of the wingers at Scots College or SPC Kilbirnie 2022 1st XV getting called up to play first five or halfback before any consideration is given to anyone based north of Dannevirke.

Drew Wild looks to have potential. Could maybe borrow Taniela Filimone, who is training with the Chiefs. Denny Solomona will be floating around, too.

@mikey07 That Manawatu Under 20 side have had some decent results these last couple of years s they must be doing something right. Was surprised they did not dredge someone out of your neck of the woods as there are a couple of promising backs over that way aside from Reuben Love. I mean there has been inordinate sums of money invested into T Va'a for starters! Where was Marvin Kawawana when he was needed!!!!!!

Very young (19), but an awesome prospect: Harry Godfrey (10/15). Only 1 NPC cap though, so too soon IMO.

Apart from Connor McLeod (halfback) and Kienan Higgins (midfielder), all other Magpies backs are either signed by a Super Rugby squad, or playing MLR or Top League.

Of the midfield out Lowe is with the Chiefs, Ili is with the Rebels, and Sapsford is with the Brumbies, the rest are with Pasifika. Makene is pretty useful but he's with Utah in MLR.

@higgins Don’t start with TJ Va’a he struggles with our Prems let alone the next level up and Karawarana apart from being retired he ended up in the forwards his last couple of seasons.

About the hookers: I assume Kereru-Symes is still with the Crusaders? Surely even the Canes coaches would pick him ahead of the two guys who played tonight if he had been available? 🤔

@mikey07 Ironic eh, good enough for the Hurricanes but not for holding a starting spot at Wainui. Darren Larsen behind that selection?

Ma'u had a good first appearance with three strong carries. His scrummaging has to improve, I did not like the look of his back for the last scrum where Numia owned him. He needs to be on the team sheet more often IMO.

I will be honest and say I get bemused with some of Holland and co's selections, (ie Prinsep, etc etc), but I got to admit they have won a couple of games, and the one against Blues was a surprise to me.
Could he possibly know more than we (ie me) giving him credit for? That would make me wrong (again) so don't anyone, especially my missus!!😁

Landers had scrum dominance ruined by bringing on reserves. Just because it is planned that way doesn’t mean the game situation demands it.

I being trying to post but couldn't. But a poor game. And thankfully canes have Ardie. Delany played well. I was wrong about him. Love has a long way to go still

Who are you and what have you done with the real @Winger ?

I think that’s twice this week you have admitted being wrong. Old age kicking in?

With Moana Pasifika coming up next weekend I think it’s a good chance for all those bench players to start again. I think we need to rest Ardie and start Iose at 8, bring Flanders back into 6 and give PUJ another crack in the 12 jersey.

I’d also like to see TK Howden come into the 23 for his first taste of Super Rugby. He was one of the standouts in the NPC last year.

But your bench players are your best players (Ardie aside)
