@higgins he played a pre-season game for the Canes a couple years back and then broke his ankle or something. He’s been there or there abouts for the Lions but hasn’t quite returned to the form that got him on the fringe of the Canes in the first place.

@canes4life I can recall he spent a period training at the Ulster Youth Academy in Belfast about four or five years ago so he must have something going for him.

@higgins oh good on him if that’s the case. I’m pretty sure he’s been around the Lions squad recently though. I wonder if he will pop up in club rugby this year…

If the last few posts were about Callum Harkin (and not a Fijian winger): he played for Wellington Centurions (the Wellington Lions development team) in 2021.

@duluth So Visinia still not back from injury. William Havili is a serious weakness at fullback.

if that is the case, I am guessing no point MP even naming a team, unless some of you imported polish locals based in the franchise area start lacing up 🙂

...............in which case let me have a quick bet on Moana first lol

@kiwimurph Geez, if this game can't go ahead, that will be the third MP game to be postponed/cancelled. Can't see MP play all these games at a later date. Maybe the Canes should just play their U20s if they're Covid free.

Wellington isn't having much luck with their sports teams and covid. Both Hurricanes teams and the Pulse are affected.

TV Reports are that Hurricanes can't field a team. Announcement likely this morning.

Unlike the A-League and NBL where you can make up postponed games by playing 3 times in a week, I don't know how they will be able to solve this. Simply sharing points isn't a fair outcome, and MP will be the most affected from a player welfare perspective.

I would also have liked to see how MP back up after last week. See if they can bring the 'hit them hard' game 2 weeks in a row.
I'm sure they would have liked to get some performance momentum as well.

“On a brighter note we are very close to confirming the rescheduling of Moana Pasifika’s previous two postponed matches against the Blues and Chiefs and are confident we can also reschedule the Hurricanes match later in the season.”

Hard to see how it can be done though. I guess a postponed match week in one option but it will be tough on one side unless the 2 teams are resting in the same week

What a cop out. Are there not more players floating around that they could ring in to at least make up a team. Look at the 'Ikale Tahi when they took on the ABs last season. They called up players from Auckland, Christshurch and Wellington club rugby sides for goodness sake, what is stopping the Hurricanes from doing likewise?

How the hell are MP going to fit in 3 postponed games in between their current fixtures? Big ask for them.

Apples and oranges. Hurricanes are in a professional competition where every scoreboard point matters, if they have the option to postpone the game to a time where they will have a stronger team then they'll take that option - why would they put out a severely weakened team increasing the risk of losing? Tonga didn't have the ability to postpone their game.
