@Tim not sure if you have access to BBC iPlayer but they have pulled out and old compilation show “Synth Britannia at the BBC”. All TOTP and Grey Whistle Test performances.
Old Roxy, Depeche Mode, New Order doing Ceremony, Japan, Sparks……
The type of shit I think you’d enjoyMay even be on YT. I haven’t checked.

@Crucial I remember watching a documentary by that same name.
There was a very good mix series called "Synth Heroes" by Dazed Digital.
This mix by a UK session musician who has played with big names (McCartney) is very good:

Some of the public comments after Dexys opened the CG Closing Ceremony like "what's the Birmingham connection? I thought they were Irish" made me post this.
Kevin Rowlands first band. Formed in Birmingham and two years later had evolved into this
and this
Come on Eileen was a couple of years after the Northern Soul influenced start that provided the band with their name.
Apologies if I'm saying stuff you already know but Searching for the Young Soul Rebels is on my all time influential album list and so much of my music listening pleasure over the last 40 plus years can be traced back to it. I get pissed of when Come on Eileen is thought of as their only song. -

Even though Eileen was their second Number One? That makes them at least the definition of a two hit wonder.

Breaking in another country can be a blessing or a curse, albeit a lucrative curse.
This is magnified if you're a non-American and you 'break' America.
You can be uber talented (controversial on here) like U2 and continually grow your musical repertoire or be pigeonholed into always being known for 1 song (maybe 2)
Dexy's Midnight Runners
Simple Minds
The Proclaimers
etc
etc -

Awesome band. -

If the song is in a successful / seminal movie then the hole is even smaller

I have nil all and fuck all chance of doing so without google.
So based on that given my superior music knowledge I think the term “one hit wonder” is astonishingly apt.

etcSimple Minds did some bangers. They were terrific.
The Proclaimers did one big song that everyone knows well despite deep down realising it is absolute shite.
Much like “why does love do this to me?” It seems vaguely tolerable when extremely pissed but when you analyse it you realise it’s just mass marketed crap. Absolutely awful.
Plus the twins fronting the band look like a pair of tired old lesbians nowadays.
