Margaret Urlich dies at the age of 57 following battle with cancer

New Zealand singer Margaret Urlich, best known for her vocals in Daryl Braithwaite's timeless hit The Horses, has died at the age of 57.

Whoever wrote this piece obviously hated her though ... The Horses ... ????

"Best known for"...? A backup singer on the worstest song ever? She's far better than that

    No ruspict

Just Aussies. Always have to make it about themselves. Back in the early 90s it was Shona Laing, Jenny Morris and Margaret Urlich

It does go both ways though. When Russell Crowe was winning Oscars he was a kiwi……when he was a fat obnoxious pisshead throwing phones and making shit music he was an Aussie.

It is an Aussie article for an aussie audience so I'll excuse it.

Spent a bit of time around Peking Man back in the day. I used to do roadie/lights/sound for a mates band who often played support for them including a tour one summer. My mate had a mega crush on Mags and made a fool of himself a number of times.
She was a classy woman. RIP Mags.

Once spent a party mostly chatting to Feargal & Elizabeth Sharkey, not recognising the name as I very rarely know band members names anyway. Great people, but I probably spent far too long staring at Elizabeth, bloody stunner irl. Felt pretty stupid when someone told me who he is after the party.

He’s not really worth knowing to be fair. The only song I’ve heard of his is no 80s banger

Do you mean The Undertones - Teenage Kicks? 78 I think.
Absolutely awesome piece and he deserves to be famous for it for the rest of his life.
When John Peel (BBC) first played it he was so blown away that he put the needle back at the start and played it again. Only time he was ever known to do that.

I haven’t heard of any of the song, the band or John Peel so I’m not sure how to respond to this.

The only DJ from the BBC I know is Jimmy Saville.

This probably isn’t a good thing.

His stuff with the Undertones was great but his solo stuff much less memorable. And yes, very ugly.

I can understand not knowing the song. Before your time if you close your ears to music from that era. Likewise maybe the band but you haven’t heard of John Peel? Just about every band on that side of the world that was half decent has an album or extra tracks with (Peel Sessions) in the title. Bands would know they had made it if Peel got them into the BBC to record new versions.

What’s the “banger” you talk of? Surely not his 80s pop pap “A good heart”?
