@voodoo Oh I totally agree that mask mandates for kids is ridiculous and tantamount to abuse but I also question the plethora of "facts" and "evidence" that we get bombarded with. Most of them are so sensationalist that they really water down any valid argument they may be promoting.
As an example but on a different topic I saw a thing online screaming about gas prices, stating that wholesale gas prices were 40% less in July than they were in April but still we have high retail prices and how it is all the big companies profiteering. The stat was factually correct but ignored that there was a huge spike in April and that prices in July were still 100% higher than they were in March. It's just Daily Mail type reporting and misleading bollocks.
Caveat: I may have got the months mixed up but the data was correct.

@Catogrande yeah, that's the world we live in! It's pretty easy to concoct an unproven stat and post it for all the interweb to see and believe.
I, of course, triangulate all my information, to ensure its of the most reputable quality, devoid of any embellishment and misinformation.
It's the Fern way.

@voodoo Most of these places enforcing mask mandates for kids are liberal bastions. Conservatives have moved on and understand kids will ride this virus out without problems. Hate to say it but liberals in general have fear issues and it is abusive to take these fears out on kids.
I live in CA and are dreading the reaction of our politicians if Covid rears it’s head again. I will do everything I can to protect my kids from the madness of masking. If you think a mask works be my guest but leave my kids alone.

It is insane they still won't let Djokovic play in the US Open because of vaccines, he's had covid twice. It's over.
Yep. Time to move on.

@MiketheSnow unfortunately it can’t be free with fear mongering liberals in charge. It’s pathetic he can’t play.

What's this about the Pfizer CEO saying they had no data to suggest that the vaccine would prevent transmission? Wasn't that the entire basis for the vaccine passports and firing staff that didn't get vaccinated? If that is true shouldn't a bunch of politicians, including our own dear leader, be facing some consequences?
-
@No-Quarter I haven't read that but I also don't remember anyone saying the vaccine in and of itself prevents transmission.
It protected an individual and made that individual less likely to contract the virus. If you haven't got the virus you can't pass it on. Therefore getting vaccinated ultimately helps limit the spread of the virus.
-
@dogmeat I swear I had 10 arguments all about transmission on this website.
Trust the science boys....
I referenced studies showing no transmission differences in vaxed vs unvaxed on population level.
Also that it was more dangerous for young people under 25 to get the vax than actual covid. All since has been studied and looks to be correct.
Fuck anyone who peer pressured people to get it based on saving grandma and grandpa

Chickens coming home to roost
It’s going to be a fucking shambles
Or at least it should be

I also repeatedly asked this question and was told (with great assurance) that YES the virus will reduce the rate of transmission.

It wasn't so much that, but the threat of redundancy/ job loss pressure, not being able to have your business open pressure, not being able to go anywhere pressure, not being able to visit friends/parents/people in hospital/rest homes pressure, your kids not being able to play sport pressure. The list goes on...
All these in this country were mandated.
And everyone seems to have forgotten.
I'm pretty convinced the mandates destroyed more lives than what the virus ever did - though getting impartial and unbiased data on that probably wont happen for another 10 years or so until "certain" people have left public office.
It's unbelievable.

I got my 3 shots because I wanted to keep my job and go somewhere other than just the supermarket and gas station...
I'm all for vaccination, my kids have been vaccinated for everything but when there's more risk of my kids dying from having an adverse reaction to the vaccine than what they would of covid it's a fairly easy line to draw. Yet people were pushing for that to be mandated also...
