The Waikato times is not as god as it was since Evan Pegden finished.

Was even better when Andy Quick set the mark.

Another example of how the afl try and make everything important

Making the balls for the final, the wife just saw me watching and commented to the effect “wow, this game is a big deal”

@Kiwiwomble So that tree is one example. How else do they "build excitement" on other social media accounts? I just don't know what more you guys expect to see?

i would make a bigger deal of things like the duane monkley medal standings, get some rivalry games going, look to release AB's for big rivalry game if possible, special rounds with special jerseys, try of the round and year comps...a lot of it is trivial...but it works getting new or casual fans into it

After watching some Kayo recently the other big thing is to have every commentator, host, etc say how great the game I every opportunity they get. It works for the NRL.

Rugby, in Australia especially, are going down the 'everything wrong with the game' path and cementing bad opinions

    they have to

It's not Rugby Australia's fault we can't get close to winning Super Rugby, it's the game's/NZRU's fault

It's not Rugby Australia's fault the Wallabies are 9th in the world, it's the game's fault.

    Stockholm Syndrome?

A great example of how to set up a marketing and communication tool then squander its power or ability is the SANZAAR site.

Quarter Finals time in NPC, the first game is just over a day away

So what's the coverage like on various websites?

Suff's rugby page has one story although it's more about Foster's opinion of RTS playing on the wing. If RTS wasn't playing would there be an article on the NPC?

Newshub's rugby page. They have a team naming page that has the Auckland side on it

TVNZ's rugby page. Zero coverage of the NPC this week

    NZ Heralds rugby page. Zero

Rugbypass has a story on the Auckland side naming. Another story is tagged as being about the NPC but is really about a new SR signing

The official competition site has no stories about upcoming matches. They have a page where the teams will be named on it. This page went live about a day after Auckland named it's side

North Harbour has released it's side (it's on the official site) However they haven't put it on their website or social media yet

@Duluth The Bay has produced the joke statement about cowbells and plenty of training photos which also show me Emoni should be fit this weekend. No team yet, but they only do once released

They have had a good social media presence this term. The Chiefs should hire them lol

@Duluth Several posts on the Hawke's Bay RU social media, including the announcement of an open Captain's run (tomorrow).

Also an article in the Hawke's Bay Today, two days ago, and there probably will be one after the team naming.

I think there may be more coverage if you look at local/regional sites affiliated to the Herald or Stuff.

The official site indeed doesn't have many stories, but there are several posts with stats, clips etc on their social media.

Some teams have OK social media and yes regional coverage is better. The ODT had pretty good coverage while Otago was in the comp etc

The decline in general coverage is real and it is getting worse each year.

this was a missed opportunity, i remember they just left the seats to the supporters club to sell off (got a row of three for the bach), but a bit of work, some cheap plaques showing which stand etc, easy money spinner

now theyve found 1400 of them just sitting in a warehouse and theyre giving them away

Thousands of fans sat in the seats at Carisbrook making memories as they watched local sport before the stadium closed in 2011. Now, 1400 of those...
