@taniwharugby shit!! It is crazy how fast the weather systems spin up and how little notice we are getting before they hit. Hope you guys in the north are staying as safe as possible.
-
yeah we are on a red alert from tomorrow morning...yay.
We actually have had more rain in the last 24 hours than we got Friday/Saturday at our place, and oddly there isnt alot of water sitting about in places it usually sits, despite how wet the past few weeks have been
I'm not so much concerned for us, but people know, clients, I know people get quite anxious with heavy rain now after the flooding in 2020 or any other time, will be quite anxious and scared now, not to mention what those in Auckland right now are going through and thise in the Coromandel who alwaysnget hit with more rain on the way too
-
@taniwharugby Hopefully we all get off lightly on this one.
Fridays deluge in Auckland was pretty bad. We were actually at the bach (coromandel) and didn’t get much weather at all in comparison that day. Then the Neighbours got in touch with us worried about our place as they were taking in water too. Had a mate come over to check and yep, a fair bit of water through our lower level but nothing we can’t fix and insurance will cover it.
Getting home was also a challenge though with various slips and floodings. Ended up going via waihi so any extra 90mins but glad we did as wouldn’t have been able to yesterday as things deteriorated across coromandel
Let’s now see what the next 48 hours brings…

we've just received a state of emergency alert...the rainfall in the past 10 hours since we have been under a red alert has been negligible, and even looking on Metservice website, predicted rainfall for the next 10 hours is dropping on what was predicted 24/12/6 hours ago, hopefully that continues and it turns out to be just 'normal' rain...

I've seen that photo as the 25a in coromandel
-
@Machpants it came from someone in the local fire service, so would hope they have an accurate pic...looks like it could be on the section on the south side of the waterfall.
-
@taniwharugby yeah not doubting you, just commenting on the shit you see online

this bit? Could be the coro - I don't remember any bit of the Brynderwyns having barriers on both sides
-
@taniwharugby looks like that photo may well be 25A. weird.

@nzzp yeah I just seen a pic of the Coromandel one from the other side and looks the same....but still, that road, where ever it is, aint being fixed anytime soon.
the Brynderwyns are better quality rock I think generally... but still not good.

@nzzp still, a bridge would be best option
Well at least there is that double lane bypass going in to Whangarei, eh

My brother's place has been yellow stickered. Northcote Point took a real hammering. Much of the eastern side has slipped into the sea.
What with the on again, off again Waka Kotahi purchase and now this - he's better off if his house goes I reckon and get an insurance payout. Resale value of a cliff top house with a history of slips and compulsory purchase orders is not going to be great. Even with views to er... die for.
Spoke to a FENZ guy on saturday. I don't think I have ever seen a more exhausted bloke in all my life.

Yeah that is a pic of S25A aka Kopu Hikawai. Been cracked and running as stop/go for the past few weeks. Totally shat itself now.
A decent bit of work to fix - and a bridge seems the obvious solution to this non-engineering fella too
