@MN5 one of my completely unsubstantiated theories for judging special effects, seems cheap movie have all their action at night (or space) i assume so they can hide details or lack of detail in the shadows....full spaceship battle in broad daylight?....awesome

Yes indeed, I loved the space battle in Rogue One as well to name another.
To be fair to the OT the technology wasn’t available to make it look as polished as it does today.
Landos heroics in ROTJ will always hold a place in my heart though, that battle is awesome.
I reckon Lucas should redo the one from ANH, a horde of fighters were in the battle in Rogue One but only a small handful came out of the Death Star which you’d assume would house hundreds of thousands of tie fighters.

Also it irked me to no end that Han became a small time smuggler who lost his fucken ship !
He was one of the major heroes of the rebellion and should have lived a cushy life after that.
the idea that their marriage broke up because of what happened to Ben.....is kind of interesting....and going back to what you knew if this new life has burnt you kind of makes sense....but lets see it! rather than just happening off screen

In the 'legends' novels Han and Leia became estranged when Chewie died doing a heroic deed to save the kids. Han couldn't handle the grief.
That's way better.
You'd think that introducing the Solo and Skywalker kids as teens that would have provided great material for Disney's target audience as well. -
@Crucial agreed, the old school nerds would have also wanted to come and watch the old books on the big screen
either lean right into or got he other way like they started to do, i liked the idea anyone could be a force user

@Rancid-Schnitzel in general i like the force awakens...but i feel its biggest crime isn't the new characters or the fan service...its that they undo everything won in the original trilogy, as you say, hans a smuggler again, luke leaves and take the jedi and the "new hope" along with it and effectively just brought back the empire
I said all of these things when it came out and was met with much righteous anger. There were claims that they actually had these awesome ideas and that you just had to be patient. And then they brought Palpatine back.....
Even watching Mando is a bit of a downer because you know it's just going to lead to the First Order nonsense and farking Palpatine. The hope was that they'd retcon that shit, but nope, they're digging in.
Such a shame.

Hard to disagree with this

his biases undermine any good points he makes...couldn't finish watching, just come across too bitter to be taken seriously

i actually remember thinking the sequels were going to be able hunting down luke, with all the talk of a map and shit, like we wouldn't actually see him until the third film and he'd come back all OP and help them win it....nope, find him straight away
That would have been infinitely better than the shit we were served up. Just the pure lack of originality and ideas was terrible, not to mention the mistreatment of beloved characters. I was hope that the originals would kind of hang in the background watching over the new characters, but intervene and unleash some cool shit if called upon to do so. Instead they made Han a fůcking smuggler again and then had his weird-looking son kill him. And the less said about Luke the better. What a disaster. Without the Mandalorian they'd been even more fůcked.
Just on Lucasfilm, they've probably already pumped stupid money into the latest Indy film, but fark me they're crazy if they don't get SR involved somehow.
I watched Kingdom of the Crystal Skull with the boys recently.
My revised opinion is it’s DEFINITELY at the bottom of the pile ( although to be fair the original trilogy movies are varying degrees of absolutely brilliant so that was a given )
It had some cool actions scenes however the Mutt character ( thankfully not in the latest one ) was absolutely ghastly. ( how is that guy a star, he is SUCH a cock ) and the “I’m too old for this” schtick from 66 year old Harrison Ford grew a bit tiresome.
How this is going to be at age 80 ( Ford is 81 this year ) doesn’t bear thinking about. I think this movie will be terrible ( but I’ll still take the boys to see it )

SOME of what this guy says is very accurate, but it is very over cynical.
I’m still loving Mando, the Obi Wan show was good.
Excellent point about the ridiculously strong female characters though. Mando was literally the only bloke when they stormed Gideons ship ( I guess they kept Boba away cos the writers couldn’t think of an appropriate reaction to him meeting Luke for the first time since the Sarlacc Pit fight ), Fennic what’s her name did ALL the heavy lifting in the Boba Fett show, Cara Dune kicked arse before she got cancelled and now Bo Katan is doing exactly the same. You know the Armourer chick will be an awesome fighter and Ashoka Tano dominated every scrap she was in.
….and that’s not even going into Reys ridiculous force powers with no training, I bet she wouldn’t get her her arse handed to her by a single Tuskan Raider like Luke did in ANH.
-
the "strong female character" shit is just stupid, critiquing rey for learning her force powers too easily.....fair, thats poor story telling
all the other ones that list being a strong female character as the negative is just stupid, mando was the only dude?....so? we also get luke come to save the day so plenty of string men too.... there is like three named female characters in the original trilogy...sometime there will be more men than women and sometimes there will be more women than men
I just dont get whats inherently wrong with kick arse female characters, ashoka, cara dune and bo katan and fennic shand had all been pretty well developed i thought, maybe due to seeing three of them in the animated series so they had more back story
-
if mando had thought Grogu properly

What did he say was wrong?

@Rancid-Schnitzel as i said, i didn't finish it, but as soon as your saying just having a strong female character is a bad thing then im out
as @MN5 points out Rey being OP without training, a valid critique of the actual character, the others he seems to dislike just because theyre women that kick arse, i mean Gina carano could kick all of our arses so i easily believe her charater, the other three have long back stories explaining how they got where they are and appear in shows that have several strong male characters (mando, Boba, Luke, the Marshal, greef...pretty much all the other Mandalorians other than the armour and bo)

C'mon he never said that. I think you'll find it was a tad more nuanced than simple misogyny. The issue isn't female characters but GOOD and properly developed female characters. Cara Dune and Fennic are very popular. So is Leia for that matter. But many of them are crap. Rey, Reeva, Holdo, Rose for starters. There's this notion that nerddom hate female characters, which is odd when it's these same awful misogynists that idolise and created the fandom around characters like Lara Croft, Ripley, Buffy, Xena, Sara Connor etc.
But that is a distraction. Ultimately the franchise is in trouble and that's all self-inflicted.

Having Grogu go back to Mando was pretty shit though. I understand why 💰 but that entire scene is now pointless. Kenobi had some cool scenes but it made no sense. Apparently getting run through with a lightsaber doesn't kill you anymore. That Inquisitor plot line was bizarre. He just reappears.

@Rancid-Schnitzel i guess the question is then, if its not misogyny, if he doesnt have a problem with these characters being female...then why mention it? when he talks about bo having to save him twice...why not just leave it with "our previously super experienced and skilled Mando has had to be saved twice in the first few episodes, they seem to be shifting focus to another character which i dont like"...labouring the "strong female character" line definitely makes it sound like that is at least part of his problem
